savebuffalo: thats cute for you, me and the other 50 people on this site but not for the other 900K people who live in this area. that glowing tim hotons sigh makes people feel comftorable because they know the name. i guarentee the down town community is jumping for joy over this new store. take a look at any vibrant city in america and you will see chains. Buffalo is great in that we have very few within the city but a mix of chains and home grown places is going to be nessecary if we are ever going to move foward.
A little raised yeast and a vat of hot, bubbling fat, and it's the Second Coming. The Liberty Building is too good for this schlep and Buffalo is too good for these overreactions to a sliver of "progress" Downtown. God help these people if Nordstrom's announced a Downtown store...they would probably be on the ground convulsing.
I’m surprised that so many people are excited about this. What exactly is Tim Horton’s going to do for Buffalo and our struggling economy? Oh, sure, it will employ 15 minimum wage workers and get us our boring, tasteless, generic, coffee for pocket change found under the seats of our luxury SUVs . And how comforting it will be to know that as soon as we walk inside we will no longer be downtown, but in the sterile Tim Horton’s environment that can be found at any one of their hundreds of other locations. And despite the fact that this chain is franchised, there is no doubt that corporate money, ethics and practice still dominate their business.
This city does not need any more cookie cutter operations. Period. Don’t you want to feel like you’re in Buffalo when you’re in Buffalo? Walking into Tim Horton’s (or Subway and Dunkin Donuts for that matter) does nothing for sense of place, not to mention civic pride. We should be encouraging new (independent) ideas instead of this corporate, brand name, regurgitated waste.
As far as the hot dog vendors and the street musicians, I’m in total agreement with Colonelcol. Open your eyes, Queenseyes.
Great addition. HOWEVER - I've not seen ONE pharmacy with open display windows in this country or Canada. A friend on mine who is a pharmacist and I were discussing this after the original post about CVS. He says that you will NEVER see this happen due to regulations.
This is a bit off topic but the city of Buffalo should work with Tim Hortons to move their US headquarters to Buffalo. Buffalo is their largest US market shouldn't their hq be here? Plus it is only a 90 min drive from Oakville (Tim Hrotons headquarters). The US headquarters is in Columbus of all places because Tim Hortons was bought out by Wendy's a few years back. Tim Hortons is a rapidly growing corporation in the US and they are in the process of expansion in Ireland. This would be a huge addition to the Buffalo economy. I know it is more complicated than it sounds but its just a thought. Go Bills

Plenty more lofts apts and condos on there way. Genesess St will be a big help. Sooner or later, you will have a critical mass and you will be surprised how quickly it all comes together.
It is happening right underneath your nose.....Dulski building, Electric tower, Condo tower on waterfront, Ellicot lofts, Hollling press, Webb lofts....list goes on. These people will need places to shop,eat, and get their hair done.

hey people, the downtown core of buffalo used to be remarkably chain-food free. in the last year, dunkin donuts and tim hortons have opened multiple establishments in the city center, ensuring that everyone can get comfy, familiar coffee/donuts-bites into their mouths every 15 feet down main street . once again, the corporate entity beats down anything and everything that is independent and local. this reality is horrible and and its only a matter of weeks before the few remaining shops are run into the ground because of it.
Queenseyes... maybe you should stop downtown a few more times before sharing your understanding of what occurs every single day at the jungle of main and court! the hot dog vendor and the saxophone artist preexist the opening of any damn tim hortons at that corner. to assume that they have come out to celebrate or feed off the business of yet another repetitive chain is both naive and insulting to them. in fact, i take offense on behalf of any street musician who is accused of such ridiculousness.

good to see but our downtown really is pretty sad when a new coffee shop opens or newly installed benches on the sidewalks make news. baby steps I guess
another good addition to downtown. Chains can work as long as they as a part of a larger downtown scheme. Will be great to get coffee here. Are they open past typical office hours? I can't get back to downtown until 6 these days which means a lot of places are out of reach still.
Man, how pathetic does a city have to be when the opening of a Tim Horton's generates this level of excitement. I think there's a Tim Horton's in Amherst on the Boulevard, that really makes or breaks the city. And if you go to Toronto there are hundreds of Tim Hortons everywhere. Who gives a clunk. Downtown is still a pit, and always will be.
I heard a White Castle's may open across the street! Buffalo is coming back, cocksure and proud.
the tim horton chain should run some kind of promotion at their subburban locations. a post card or something.

Tim Horton's was originally suppose to go into the corner of the Hotel Lafayette space but once again HUNT COMMERCIAL couldnt put a deal together. At least Timmy H. looked elsewhere and stayed downtown. Glad to see the activity. I hope that street retail space at Hotel Lafayette still gets some retail !
It's only open until 7PM on weekdays and it's closed on the weekend. :-(

A storefront coffee shop, its only a small thing but it makes Buffalo more like a real city, and that should be praised!
BuffaloNY. That really is such a simple question, almost a dumb question.
Of course one of our many agencies, politicians, IDA's, layers of government, public authorities has asked tim hortons that question............

I love Tim Hortons. Ther prices are great. They need to get a better top for the coffee cups, like the ones they have at Dunkin.
So nice to see this space occupied once more. I always liked this spot when I worked in the Main-Court Building where CVS is. It used to be nice to get a coffee or tea over there and even a breakfast sandwich but then suddenly they just shut down one night and it was over.
