My girlfriend and I tried out Sample a couple weeks ago for her birthday. I thought the cocktails were pretty good, but I was pretty disappointed in the food. I understand the concept and all, but the portions were minuscule, not small. I left with a wallet $80 lighter, and a stomach that was telling me to stop at Jims Steak Out.

Overall good service and taste, but the portions were barely a bite each, and too expensive considering the size.

I have been to Sample 3 times and been pleased with each visit. If your a meat and potato's (picky) type of person or enjoy eating mases of food at every meal, this place may not be for you. However if you like to eat all different sorts of food, and don't need to gorge yourself to feel 'full' then you will like this place. The portions are small because thats the concept, so dont go all day without eating before you go to Sample. On my last trip the wife and I ordered the chefs tasting. Basically its a mini cheese board, then a few different rounds of basically all the items on the menu, and then the dessert round. The bill came to around 100 bucks with drinks, the norm for any good non-chain, and we were both pretty full when we left. I certainly want to try and make it for one of the Sunday Suppers and was mad I missed the beer pairing meal.

sample is great, and very cutting edge. you can go to a million different places for variations on the same thing (ahi tuna, filet mingon and any other number of main dishes) but sample takes those same dishes and puts a very refreshing and very unique spin on them.

keep up the good work sample!

the drinks are good. The food is great. Not someplace you go for a full meal. Someplace to have drinks and hor dourves. I just have one question- the eggs benedict @ sample was delicious.. but whos eggs was I eating?? It was tiny the yolk was the size of a dime (and still runny yum) but I have no Idea what bird that came from and did not realize it until hours after I left haha.

It's my guess that you enjoyed a quail egg. If you're interested in using them at home they can be purchased at A'Chau on Niagara for less than $2 a dozen.

Another article that is NOT about career opportunities for young people in Buffalo. How can Buffalo claim to be rising if it can't absorb its college graduates? Unless they want to be a waitress or a cook, which is fine but that can't absorb all the college graduates that want to stay in Buffalo.

completelyoverplayed....a newer restaurant, owned and run locally seems to be an article about career opportunites. aren't these new jobs? isn't this a new opportunity?

are you looking for someone to just come along and HAND you a job?

the days of everyone working at bethlehem steel are long gone.

How are the prices for cocktails?

There are a few newer establishments that still think charging 8, 10, 12 dollars for a martini is ok....

Sorry but NYC or Chicago this is not.

    So how does Sample compare?

    completelyoverplayed,

I agree with scooter's points. I didn't know this site was supposed to be a quasi-classified site? Why do you need someone to hire you? If you have skills, then why don't you start your own company? As a graduate who has been absorbed here, I know that if you are good and in the IT field, that it should be a piece of cake to get job of your choice. I love how everyone else is to blame for people not having jobs. If you're a cook or waiter, and have a degree, you're probably lazy or got a degree in a useless major.

The drinks at this place are surreal! Everytime I go I see something better and better pass by and I have to try it! It's a great sexy place for that special date ;)
