I've lived within a two minute walking distance of this place for six years and I've never eaten in there. And I'll eat anything! That's the last word right there...close it and open up a high-class escort service (that'll get some Albany money up here).

Wait, are there any churches within 1000 feet? No, looks like we're cool.

Aren't these things franchised with indy owners? Regardless, the prevailing thought is that KFC is awful esp this one, but.... how long has the place been there? sadly it's one of the longest running businesses on Elmwood, some poor souls must be keeping the place open. I think it actually harbors a nest of zombies in its basement who suck the brains out of unsuspecting customers.

Hmmm...tastes like...chicken? I don't think so. What happened last time they closed? Rats? Roaches? Both? Problems with this chain all over the country. A recent story on NBC News highlighted by hidden cameras showed a location in NYC that was infested with rats that would invade the KFC by the hundreds--caught by security cameras that were set off...feasting on whatever they could till the sun came up! The NYC GOVT WAS INSTRUMNETAL IN SHUTTING THE PLACE DOWN!

Not here though! Our city is more interested in sending the police there to patrol the usually empty lot after KFC hours to deliver $50 tickets to people patronizing the higher-end restaurants in that secion of the village. Typical Buffalo City Government at it's finest! The place is a disgusting insult to The EV! You'd think the City Inspectors and Health Department would be fining them like crazy to send a message to get out! Guess 'Colonel Sanders' has an 'in' here!

Oh my God, the Yellow District is crumbling!!! EVA has turned into a wussified neighborhood of busy bodies in everyone's business. It's to the point now where a sewer back up is major news? Wow, what boring lives. I had to read the story after seeing it had 40 comments.

And this color banner system, how laughable. I've never seen a group so concerned with it's image than the EVA, a group bent on marginalizing the unwanted, stratying itself and poo-poo the non-residents. EVA is no better than Spaulding Lake. Think about it.... the goal is to drive out everyone that's not of a certain socio-economic strata, educational level, or any business that isn't considered cool or hip.

thinker, the only reason people get all up and arms about this place is because it is constantly gross and poorly maintained. Are you denying that? People don't want to live around a place that has rat and hygiene issues like this. I would assume that anyone anywhere in the city who lived around a place like this would be just as vocal to have them clean up or ship out. This isn't EV vs the others. This is people direct of walking through grease and garbage in their own area. I don't think this is a socio-economic issue but one of a poorly run business.

Perhaps the biggest urban design void in the Elmwood Village is the intersection of Elmwood and Bryant. With a parking lot and two suburban focused retail chains, the charm of the 'Yellow District' is greatly degraded in what should be a premier intersection given the proximity of W&C Hospital, great housing and boutiques.

The EVA needs to take a bull headed lead in the redevelopment of this corner. First by heckling the owner of the KFC property to sell and marketing it to potential developers/investors. Secondly, by persuading W&C Hospital to surrender their corner parking lot to development interests.

A great example of mixed-use infill development can be found one block north with Elmwood Village Lofts and LU Moderin Classics. This example can easily work on all three of these parcels. Or, perhaps, something even better.

If you're serious about putting pressure on this one location, find the nearest YUM stores (Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell) that are owned by a DIFFERENT franchisee. Explain that this one location is diminishing the brand locally, and that more negative publicity will be forthcoming, should this store not be cleaned up. Get this message to the franchisee a few times, and he/she will first say 'that's none of my business...", but as soon as you leave, he'll be on the phone to YUM.

Funny thing is that nice boutiques and other nice restaurants come and go on Elmwood, but KFC always does business and stays open! This is one of EV's most long standing businesses, it has been there for almost 30 years!

Say what you want about the cleanliness, this place makes money. When it is open it is filled with crack heads and pan handlers all treating themselves to some nice fried chicken.

Couple this place with the Sunoco next door and you have a great formula for population drain. Such a waste of a nice corner. the city really needs to shut this place down ASAP.

KFC is the root of all the problems on Elm and Bryant.

Something has to be done about this property for two reasons. First, it is an eyesore for the community, which I live within walking distance to. With all of the great restaurants in that area, including the two new ones opening on Elmwood, it's just flabergasting that it can still be open. After it's closed now how many times? Second, it's the idleness it creates of it's patrons. I don't really want people sitting on my stairway eating KFC. It needs to be torn down and there needs to be strong community support to push for more retail space in its place.

They probably clogged the system up by throwing grease, food waste and scraps/bones/etc... down inappropriate drains, like the toilet - rather than using the grease bin in the back and proper disposal.

Hey, to their credit, I guess they were trying harder than when they used to just dump the crap out the back kitchen door, onto the sloped parking lot that would run right into Bryant!

This place is absolutely dreadful - I don't know how they stay open.

Putting the disgusting lack of cleanliness and gross food aside; I went there with my roommate about a year ago.

Twice. The service has always been DREADFUL -- none of the employees want to be there or make any effort to be friendly. Must be Welfare to work programs?! --- Everything we ordered she just yelled back "WE AINT GOT ROLLS" - " WE ALL OUTA GRAVY" -- wtf? Thank god, I ended up getting chinese. What my roommate did order, came out - 45 min later.

I agree with many of the comments above. BFLORome is correct about the events in New York City. The local news stations there usually enjoy reporting on unsavory dining experiences during TV ratings sweep weeks. In addition, the tabloids in NYC relish putting these stories on their front pages. (Not too many years ago, photos of rats partying in a Times Square doughnut shop at night ran on the front page of the NY Post and in the back pages of the NY Times. The negative attention ruined the business and it shut down soon thereafter.) Does Buffalo's media go after these stories with the same zeal? I think you'll see city inspectors make the rounds following damaging headlines.

OK so here is my opinion of the KFC problem. KFC on Broadway in Buffalo was recently closed and that restaurant was horrible, bad service, dirty and scary. The KFC on Dick road in Depew is horrible, bad service and very dirty. Another KFC in Lockport is lets guess my next phrase, Horrible, bad service and dirty. So what is a community to do when 3 chains of the same brand offers such an appealing dining experience? My answer is WHO THE HELL OWNS THESE PLACES? WE need to close them ALL...
