Simple, clean, big portions, the kitchen takes pride in the dishes they send out. Hanging out at the bar feels like you are among all of your lost friends.
Skip Applebees or TGIF, you've been there a hundred times. Definetly worth checking this place out. Local does matter!
Fine dining in South Buffalo maybe.....but I guess you consider Curley's as Lackawanna, Daniel's Hamburg, David's OP, Rick's and the Roycroft East Aurora.....etc. etc. Blue Lantern, Mangia, Old Mill and even Ilio's come to mind. You really must get out more.....

Based on the fact that this is the first comment you've left here on Buffalo Rising, we'll assume that you're new to the site. Buffalo Rising limits its coverage to people, places and things that happen within the city of Buffalo.
All of the examples you've mentioned are not Buffalo establishments. Yes, Curly's is in Lackawanna, the marvelous Daniel's in Hamburg, David's in Orchard Park and the Roycroft (the place where I've spent every Christmas Day for the last five years), is in East Aurora. The Blue Lantern is in Elma, Mangia is in Orchard Park, Ilio's in Blasdell and the Old Red Mill (the only Old Mill I know of) calls Williamsville home.
If you have any suggestions of restaurants in South Buffalo that you think I should check out, I'm all ears. But stay tuned, we post new news about restaurants and markets in the city every day. Pretty soon you may find one interesting enough to drive in and check it out.
Born and raised in South Buffalo, I grew up on Blackthorn. From lunch with grandma and grandpa after church at Grace, to family funeral luncheons, it has always been delicious!!!!
The Blackthorn is a true South Buffalo Gem. We eat there quite often and they have some of the best food around. The crab cakes are to die for and the beer cheddar soup is the best! It is nice to see that they are going to be expanding, I know business warrants it because sometimes people are waiting out the door for their food! They were even open for dinner during the October Storm! What a life saver!
Open during the storm. ohh you mean that is because gas lines are underground and not affected by falling tree limbs? ohh if only our power lines could do the same... ;)
I only was here once, many years ago now, but it was quite delightful. I think the truth of "feeling like you found lost friends" happens anywhere in Buffalo but you need to get outside of the Elmwood Village area to really feel it. Those blue collar neighborhoods where pretensions melt away are the places were the joe next to you can be your new best friend. Whether it is CPG's, The Golden Key or The Swannie House, these places are the melting pot of our city and those places were people don't care what you wear or if you are new there or been there for 30 years.
