Transporting the Whipple truss bridge

cotterwerf3f.jpg
Just minutes ago the Erie Canal Terminus Whipple truss bridge made its way down the Buffalo River. The Michigan Street Bridge was raised to let brigade through. Led by the Edward M. Cotter fireboat (originally christened in 1900) and followed up by the West Wind tug, the bridge crept its way through the abnormally thin ice to its final destination. The short trip up the river appeared to be effortless, and the bridge is now residing in its new home... the slip of the Erie Canal Terminus. Now how 'bout constructing another bridge to link the Inner and Outer Harbor. Still no news on that front.
