The Honu House: A Quiet Haven On Elmwood

The Honu House: Elmwood Village Inn is now approaching its one-year anniversary. When we last stopped in to this comfy getaway there was still a lot of work to be done. The bathrooms had not been completed and the kitchen was just in the planning stages. Since that time, the Honu House has seen a miraculous transformation into a home-away-from-home for anyone visiting the WNY area.

Karen Powell, proprietress of the bed and (continental) breakfast, has decorated each room with artistic objects from all over the world. The guestrooms are so cozy that a visitor may never want to leave. There is a communal, bare necessity, galley kitchen where guests can prepare modest fixings… or consider the third floor suite, which has built-in appliances for the 'chef on the road'. And every morning the first floor is laid out for guests to enjoy a light breakfast. The bathrooms are all uniquely designed and feature oversized showers and tubs. This house offers a serene experience, yet can be found directly on bustlingElmwood Avenue (corner of St. James). See the above slide show for an online tour. 716-886-2397

When I was in Buffalo for the weekend over the summer, I had the distinct pleasure of staying at Honu House. It was a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in the door. The front room and kitchen were warm and inviting, the upper floor bedroom was beautifully appointed with rich colors and fabrics that lent to a cozy atmosphere. The entire place was immaculately clean and Karen was a most hospitable and gracious host(ess). She really made me feel at home. The experience unquestionably made my weekend in Buffalo. I highly recommend Honu House. What better place for out of town guests to stay than right on the Elmwood Strip too, where the vibe outside is an extension of Honu House's own unique feel and flavor. Continued success Karen!
