Have you signed the petition to oppose the planned demolition of 399 Franklin Street? Send a message to City Hall that preservation, especially within a preservation district, is a public priority. Encourage family and friends to do the same. One Preservation Board member indicated that the lack of opposition at the November 2nd public hearing influenced their decision to allow the demolition of the property. They need to hear from us.
Maybe the fact that it is in a P R E S E R V A T I O N D I S T R I C T should have influenced their decision in a manner that would
P R E S E R V E the building. Isn't that the point of their little board?
You would think that the Preservation Group would be suing by now.
Gee, do you think that the Board's insistence on holding meetings during the day when the only people who can attend are the retired, the unemployed, or those willing and able to take time off might have something to do with the low turnout to oppose the demolition?
Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that "inconvenient" letters sent to the Board sometimes never get seen by the board, and that maybe a clerk recently suspended for professional malfeasance might not be the most reliable conduit of public sentiment?
Naw, that couldn't be it.
Must be the apathy of the Buffalo public. Yeah, once again, folks, it's your fault and mine, not the fault of the people we hire and appoint to look after our interests and enforce our laws.
