The Wall Street Journal Comes To Lunch

http://www.buffalorising.com/city/archives/upload/2006/08/wall_street_journal-thumb.jpg
Today was a good day for Buffalo Old Home Week. Jeffrey Zaslow (far left), Senior Special Writer for The Wall Street Journal, came into town to write up a piece about Buffalo Old Home Week. Jeff called last week inquiring about the production and thought it would make for an interesting article. That's good news for Buffalo Old Home Week and even better news for Buffalo. The large circulation of the WSJ will reach a contingent of Buffalonians that might not be aware of what is taking place back home. It will also signal to readers that something special is taking place in our city.

A group of us met Jeff at Cafe 59 for lunch this afternoon to answer many of the questions that he had in regards to the event. Present at the discussion was Ed Healy of the CVB, and OHW committee members Dr. Ethan Cox, Chris Smith, Marti Gorman, Amy Maxwell, Emily Lowrey (BR), and Harvey Garrett. Everyone came prepared to stamp out many of the city's negative misperceptions. I believe that Jeff came away from the meeting with plenty of ammo for what we hope will be an amazing article about the future of Buffalo and the progress being made to attract its greatest resources back home... its people. Look for the article to be published this Thursday (fingers crossed).

This is great, great and great. i want to know more. How did Jeff find out about Old Home Week? What topics did you guys cover with him exactly? What kind of preconceptions about Buffalo did have before your meeting? Was he surprised about the enthusiasm that many Buffalonians, still living there or elsewhere, have their hometown? You guys don't have a podcast of the meeting, do you? (Just Kidding but Wishful Thinking) His visit also says lots about how well Old Home Week has been organized and what it's hoping to accomplish. Thanks guys-this is great news.

When I sit next to tiny little Marti, it appears that I am the jolly green giant of community activism.

I think QE probably meant next Thursday, the 17th. I'd be shocked if Mr. Zaslow can write that fast, having only met with us yesterday ;)

Sorry, yeah it's next Thursday. My bad.

I wouldn't be shocked that an editor at one of the most prestigious papers in the US, and world, can write that quickly :-|
It happens all the time when breaking stories are written in a span of hours or minutes to meet the print deadline.
Anyways, I'll look for it next week.

I hope everyone at Old Home week will visit my missing-buffalo blog and leave me their comments about what they miss about WNY! I'll include them in my Missing Buffalo book, to be published in 2007 or 08, featuring polaroid transfer art work of things missed. For a preview of the art, visit mpkane-art.com (under construction, so keep trying) and missingbuffaloblog.com. You can register and list what you miss. I'll miss the festivities by a week but look forward to a visit!
