What a stunning photo.

Good thing they left off the hideous leasing banner on the back of the electric tower. If you come from the back of the building it makes it lose some of its charm. Was that taken from the hollings press building?

BUFFALO RISING!

Eric February 9, 2006 11:22 AM

Great photos. Good to see things moving and shaking in downtown Buf.

Very exciting time for the nickel city. A city's downtown is much like a home's foyer. The foyer says alot about what you're going to find once you come inside. That's why so many developers now are focusing their attention on foyers and front doors on most new homes. fortunately for Buffalo the infrastructure is for the most part intact. I currently reside in a city that has to construct new buildings to look like they're about 80 years old, because most people want character that you don't generally find in new architecture.

Perry Fisher February 9, 2006 12:42 PM

Marcia,

And the proportions, details, materials, and craftsmanship in the reproductions are almost never convincing.

But we're still tearing down the real things left and right, all over the country.

A beautiful photograph above! I showed it to my business partners and employees this morning. Their enthusiastic reaction: "Where's that?!!" To the answer, "Downtown Buffalo," the response is a cautious, hesitant, "Really?" Wish the experience of walking around downtown Buffalo gave the same impression as this photograph, but maybe with time ...

Great photo! I live in NYC and showed this pic. to my coworkers and they thought it was a picture of a city in Europe. They were really shocked when I told them that it was Buffalo, NY. I'm glad that Buffalo has decided to retain it past while creating its future.

9 East Genesee. SPA Lofts. Luxury Lofts with commercial ground floor. Planned.

Ethan Cox February 9, 2006 03:22 PM

Also, work seems to be going on in the commercial space of the Sidway; I believe they're putting in a martini bar after all.

Thanks all, and thanks to wcp for posting this image. It was both an honor and a surprise...a friend and loyal reader (and fellow photographer) tipped me off about it, I'm glad y'all have enjoyed it.

This photo was taken from the Holling Place (Press) building, just before a lake storm rolled in last August. You can find a few more images from that day here.

You can also find more of my Buffalo images here.

Please contact me if you wish to use or purchase any of my images, thanks!
