Buffalo's Home Decorridor

We wondered, ever worried about what would fill the niche left when Pier 1 was closed after more than a decade of operation on Elmwood. We hoped it would be an opportunity for something more contemporary and relevant, a little more chic without being too upscale to take it’s place. We daydreamed, “Wouldn’t it be great if we had the same choices in furnishings as the ones offered in specialty stores like ABC Carpet & Home, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, and Crate & Barrel?”
We hear today that our hopes have been answered.
Dave Brugh and Michael Poczkalski, the proprietors of Room, who converted a former gift shop into a designer showroom that brings a little bit of Soho/Newberry Street to Elmwood Avenue, are moving to a much larger space.
Why? Because they are about to begin carrying the elegant yet affordable furniture of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams --merchandise that according to Time, “makes deracinated col-lege students feel as if they're at home, ur-ban hipsters feel as if they're in the country and suburban yuppies in ranch houses feel like aristocrats, all for a reasonable price.” The industry-leading furniture designers/manufacturers in addition to producing their own line also make furniture found in Crate & Barrel, Restoration Hardware, and Pottery Barn.
Room’s new space is approximately 2200 sq. ft. and is at 986 Elmwood Avenue, the former Elmwood Market and Deli at the corner of Potomac. The new location will realize some retail synergy with Elmwood Village Fabrics and Homeward Bound, serving to create the city’s Home Decorridor.
"décorridor" It's very exciting to have room taking an anchor position on the 980s block. Excellent compliment to existing businesses, and no doubt, will be a big improvement over lottery signs and racing forms in the windows. Yeaaaaaa!
Finally.. some decent furniture comes to Elmwood. I'm getting a bit tired of driving to IKEA every 3 months.
I haven't been in room, but I went there when it was still mix. Every time I'm at crane, I try to visit.. but they're either closed or out to lunch. I'm interested in a position, if they're hiring for the larger space. I don't usually eat lunch.
"Decorridor." Clever use of language, guys! Hope it sticks.
Best Wishes to the new location for ROOM.
good for you!
Welcome to the corner, Michael and David! What an improvement you will make of that empty hole of a storefront! And cheers to JP and Jim of Sunday, just around the corner on Potomac. Those guys scrub, shovel and sweep that corner on a daily basis, with the idea that this is their "home". If all the businesses on Elmwood and environs took the same pride in their streetscape, the Village would really shine. Keep up the great work, Guys. And thank you!
Great news! David & Michael have great style & should be very successful in their new location!
Congratulations! When's the opening?
Nice. If I'm thinking of the right place, my wife fell in love with their little dog. She's got a seriously cute underbite (the dog, not my wife).
Good luck to them.
Though I tried, I cannot (or more specifically a certain Editorial Director will not allow me to) take credit for "Home Decorridor". That's a Queenseyes invention, as was much of the background for the post.
And I hope Home Decorridor sticks too.
very VERY cool...
good luck gentlemanand congrats
We're looking forward to play-dates with Flo and her big sis. Maybe a "bullies & puggies" picnic on the parkway, when the weather warms up!

Their current store has fabulous stuff. I can't wait to see what they fill the new location with.
Another vital, affordable addition (well.. expansion) to Elmwood!
