After taking a walk through at the future Artspace complex I was curious as to how the future interior build-out might look. I sent an email off to Andrew Commers (project manager) at Artspace USA inquiring about what an artist could expect upon final completion of the build-out. Andrew was kind enough to reply with a photo of a live/work unit in their Pittsburgh, PA project. Even though I did see the spaces sectioned off during the walking tour, I was pretty stoked to have a visual of what we might expect from an Artspace apartment.

Wendy Holmes, VP Resource Development and Consulting, relayed to me that there has been much interest from a few local cafes to run an operation, and a host culturals have also expressed interest in the commercial spaces. "All of the business aspects will be art-related," she expressed. "We have been approached by people who would like to run a gallery in conjunction with the project... so it is safe to say that we will incorporate a gallery into the mix. If a cafe is incorporated then it will also function as a gallery space too."

For an idea of what a cafe might look like, Andrew forwarded a photo of the cafe in their Seattle, Washington project. It just goes to show what kind of facility we are looking at once completed. The modern functional space projects a feeling of openness, while the exposed structural elements add interesting visual design elements.

The live/work units have not yet been rented though Artspace has already been accepting applications from potential resident artists. The timeline will most likely allow for applications for each one to three bedroom studios to be processed next March with residents physically moving in around July. Commercial aspects such as a coffee shop and gallery are still on the table. The priority is to complete the residential units before worrying about the amenities.
