The Greening Collaborative of the West Side Community Collaborative is working with local artists and students of Brad Wales in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture on the redesign of a corner park on Buffalo’s West Side. There will be a Public Forum on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:30 pm at West Side Community Services to review several designs for the park as well as planter designs for the Massachusetts Avenue /Rhode Island Street area.

Community members are invited to attend and take part in the design process.

The park is located at the corner of Rhode Island Street and 18th Street, two blocks from the new Prime 490 and Left Bank. Designs for the park include keeping the existing Bocce court and mature trees, while making use of open space as a children’s playfield. UB students are designing low walls and community spaces for the park, which make it a destination for the area.

In addition to the UB students’ designs for the park, local artists Nancy Gabriel and Cynnie Gaasch will be working with children in the immediate neighborhood to create mosaic tiles for the low wall features.

This project has been made possible by the Mayor’s Livable Community Grants, MetLife, NYSCA Decentralization Grants awarded through the Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County. Collaborating and assisting in the project are Pilgrim St. Luke’s Web Block Club, Massachusetts Avenue Project, West Side Community Collaborative, Urban Roots Community Garden Center, Keep Western New York Beautiful, and Councilman Dominic Bonifacio.
