Dear Friend of Urban Roots,
Thanks to all of you that filled out one of our surveys at various events throughout the city this summer. We’ve compiled the data and determined that many people really want a Garden Center in Buffalo. Now Urban Roots is ready to become something more than a good idea. Urban Roots needs to grow. In the surveys, people not only said that they would shop at Urban Roots, many of them said that if it was a cooperative model (like the Lexington Coop), they would become members. At the bottom of a recent letter sent out to Friends of Urban Roots, a ballot was attached that asks supporters to help make Urban Roots a consumer co-op. (If you would like the letter - in pdf form - emailed to you, please send an email to queenseyes@adelphia.net). The ballot on the pdf offers people the chance to vote on the model that the steering committee has moved forward with.
The next Urban Roots meeting is September 19th. We encourage supporters to bring the ballot to the next and final open general meeting. This meeting is meant to make official the Cooperative model, and select the actual members of the Urban Roots Steering Committee. The steering committee will be a leadership committee made up of people who can commit the time to take Urban Roots to the next level. If BRO readers still think the idea is great, we’d love to see you at the next meeting. It’s your chance to give your input, or better still, join us in moving to the next level. At the meeting we’ll talk about the role of the steering committee over the coming months. This will incorporate the next steps. On a separate page of the above mentioned pdf, you will see that certain steps have already been taken by the various Urban Roots committees. Thanks again for taking an interest in Urban Roots. We think this idea can grow into something wonderful for Buffalo. -Urban Roots.
Update: The next meeting of Urban Roots Garden Center is Monday, September 19th at 7pm at Pilgrim St. Luke's UC Church at Richmond and West Utica. Urban Roots will have a fall Plant Swap on October 15th, stay tuned on BRO for further info.
