EAHS 1972
- Bio: Grew up in East Aurora and moved away from the Buffalo area for good in 1976, to the Midwest and then to the West Coast. But the Buffalo area is still my home and I really hope the area can rebound.

Commented on The Hamlin Park Neighborhood: A Strong Community and One You Should be Seriously Considering
I don't disagree there. The best way for Buffalo to get people back into the city into the abundant affordable housing that already exists (or that can be economically rehabbed) is to fix the school system so moving back (or...

Commented on The Hamlin Park Neighborhood: A Strong Community and One You Should be Seriously Considering
>>A home buying program with local college grads is not the solution. It's a nice idea but it does not solve anything long term. Perhaps not but it doesn't it at least temporarily help by rehabbing a neglected/abandoned house, prevent...

Hutch Tech and Honors comprise 5.9% of the city's public school enrollment, not .05%. They do comprise five-hundredths (.05) of the total enrollment....

Commented on Part of Buffalo Billion to Assist with Parkway Removal in Falls
I am sure the residents of Black Rock and other Buffalo neighborhoods would be well served by thousands and thousands of semi trucks using surface streets to access 1-90 after coming into the USA over the Peace Bridge, without the...

Commented on Part of Buffalo Billion to Assist with Parkway Removal in Falls
"why I should care about the length of a southtowner's commute?" Maybe because those from the burbs who visit downtown also spend money downtown and help keep downtown businesses in business? The easier it is to access downtown, the more...
-
Commented on Part of Buffalo Billion to Assist with Parkway Removal in Falls
To those advocating getting rid of 190, how would one conveniently get into downtown Buffalo from the Southtowns? I'm serious. Before the 400 (and the 219, for cities in the other direction) was built, it took 45-60 minutes on route...

Commented on Paver aka Puncture Alley
A story linked earlier in this thread says the pavers were obtained free of charge because they were not used by a project in NYC. "the state DOT says again it did not cost them anything because it was available...

Commented on Silo City Rocks and a tribute to Buffalo's mustached men
No space for Rick Martin? He had a nice, thick mustache for at least part of his time with the Sabres, as I recall. How about coaches Pop and Red from "The Natural?" Either way, it looks great! PS: We...

Commented on Hamlin Park Historic District Approved for State Listing, Now on the way to National Designation
Let me preface this with I have no idea if Canisius has plans for that area, if it has the first options on some of those houses, or if it has already purchased some of the vacant lots. (Actually, there...

Commented on Hamlin Park Historic District Approved for State Listing, Now on the way to National Designation
Mike, How would this impact any possible Canisius expansion on the main campus side of Main Street? It would be nice if they could buy out the homeowners on Eastwood and Glendale and expand in that direction out to Humboldt...

Commented on Dissolve the district school system... and reimagine what public education looks like in Buffalo
I suppose if Grover Cleveland (for example) could pick and choose who it accepted and eliminate 90 percent of its disciplinary problems before they ever happen, and simply dismiss underperforming students and send them back to the chazrter-school pool, it...

Commented on Dissolve the district school system... and reimagine what public education looks like in Buffalo
I see no mention whatsoever of race in either of my posts on this thread. As far as class goes, I'll stand by my statement of vouchers being just another way for the rich to disengage themselves from the great...

Commented on Dissolve the district school system... and reimagine what public education looks like in Buffalo

Commented on Dissolve the district school system... and reimagine what public education looks like in Buffalo

Commented on Fantastical Place: Bethlehem Steel
Wind would be no problem because it's part of the attraction of a championship-caliber course next to a large body of water (think Bandon Dunes in Oregon, or any number of courses in the United Kingdom and Irish Republic)....

Commented on Fantastical Place: Bethlehem Steel
Has this site been polluted beyond all recovery or is there a possibility for development? Who owns it? (Sorry if I seem uninformed. It was still going strong when I left WNY in 1976). With all that lake access what...

Commented on A look at St. Paul's Union Depot
The Hamlin Park neighborhood could be partially stablized by vacating Eastwood Place, Glendale, one side of Hiughes and Long streets between Canisius, Main Street and the Humboldt Parkway and sell it to CC for university expansion. The residents of the...
