  • Commented on Bills Changes: Chan Gailey Out, Russ Brandon Promoted to CEO
when the smoke clears, unfortunately, this is no new era for the bills, it is same ole same ole. an inexperienced president, along with an inexperienced gm (former scout-who was the brainchild/enabler in extending fitz's contract), with a soon to...

  • Posted Ode to Industrial: Sinful Nightclub to Buffalo Rising
When a friend from Orchard Park mentioned to me that a nightclub was opening on Delaware Avenue near Babeville, I tried to picture where the location might be. After all, it's commonplace for bars and restaurants to open on streets like Delaware and Elmwood, but they usually open in clusters.  It was only when I first saw Sinful Nightclub, located on the first floor of a 6400 square foot building right around the corner from where I live, that I realized that Buffalo would soon be home to an industrial club unlike any other in the city. I contacted Tom Radon,...
  • Posted Terry Sullivan - Low Lamp Session @ Blue Monk to Buffalo Rising
Blue Monk | Thursday 8/18 | 9pm-1130pm Terry Sullivan & I were both given brass and tested by the music Gods in the 5th grade. Terry was handed a tuba, I was given a trombone.  My enormous eleven year old ego wanted no part of the trombone.  I didn't want to get my ass beat on the bus, cared too much what the other kids thought, and ended my music career after 7 long weeks. Terry, on the other hand, is wired completely different.  His innate passion for music coupled with a smaller than average rock ego triumphed over his...

  • Posted A Steakhouse Burger and a Spiked Shake? Sign me up! to Buffalo Rising
Kudos to team SOHO for a great burger experience (see background).  I really am not one who needs or wants to eat at a new, trendy restaurant right off the bat, but I just couldn't wait to try a burger on day one!  Normally I wait for the establishment to do any tweaking prior to me spending my hard earned cash there.  Regardless :), I was in the mood for a burger, so I decided to check out SOHO Burger Bar, which opened today. Overall, I was impressed with almost every facet of this place.  It's pretty much the same layout...
  • Posted Perfect Timing For A Bash to Buffalo Rising
Life revolves around balance.  Much of the northeast has endured a long winter and a rainy, crappy spring. "The Bash", Buffalo's unofficial start to summer & the festival season took place Friday evening and the timing could not have been better.  4000 attendees deserved impeccable weather, delectable food and a variety of tasty beverages.  I think what's so special about the occasion is the dynamic gathering of friends, family & co-workers in a cool, distinctive environment, united with the sounds of DJ Setlock and the always charismatic Lance Diamond.  The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross, along with...

  • Posted Encore - Where Steak Meets Sushi to Buffalo Rising
I was recently checking out Buffalo Spree's article on WNY eligibles.  A number of the Buffalo Sabres were featured and from what I remember, all but one listed Encore as a favorite restaurant in WNY.  This is pretty impressive considering a majority of the players live in the burbs.  I hang my lid right around the corner from Encore (have been there many nights for drinks) so I decided to check out their cuisine on a recent Tuesday evening. I was welcomed by Mike Greco and must say that after a few minutes of Q&A and a couple 'apps', Encore elevated...

  • Posted Snooty Fox Lounge: Where Dining Meets Nightlife to Buffalo Rising
Snooty Fox Lounge is Buffalo's best-kept secret when it comes to Sicilian cuisine. Visit at 5pm any day of the week and I can guarantee you a sophisticated, jazzy, upscale experience complete with a professional upbeat staff. Set in one of Buffalo's beautiful, late 19th century brick buildings, Snooty Fox along with much of the updated wood craftsmanship (completed at the hands of owner Sal Buscaglia) is a story in itself.  Sal is a hardworking, passionate man that truly appreciates the fact that his business has become one of the Queen City's premier hot spots. The place has it all...

  • Posted Buffalo Bam!!!! - 2010 World's Largest Disco (slide show). to Buffalo Rising
Born in 1979, revived in 1994, this year's World's Largest Disco was every bit as rockin' as I had hoped it would be.  The Fonz was in the house (newly renovated Buffalo Convention Center), along with Cindy Morgan, who portrayed the irresistible Lacy Underall from one of my all-time favorite films, "Caddyshack".  7500 dudes boogied the night away while Conesus Fest for Charity eclipsed the $2,000,000 mark for charitable donations.  Kudos to EVERYONE who helped make this event so radical.  The lighting, sound, videos were dyno-mite.  The energy was truly amazing; that was "the joint"....
