  Sorry. I commented about not seeing this very topic at the Name that food shack! The pic at this topic in a looking-outward angle away from those nasty steps is not isolated; it is inviting. But NO trees or live plants, please!!! No one waters them so then they die. But then again, lots of people walking by drink that bottled water... I wonder if even one of those people in either topic is actually drinking a Coke?!...

  one simple feature that would improve this space in a big way would be to train ivy or a comparable climbing plant on those dreary concrete walls. green leafy walls would be delightful....

  Good lord -- get thee to a copy of William Whyte's seminal book, Rediscovering the Center City! It's a how to book on how to turn dead space into glorious public spaces. AFter he did all his research, he was hired to do Byrant Park in NYC, and it remains one of the best urban spaces in the city. The concepts aren't difficult or expensive, but you have to know them to implement them....
