  • Commented on Sensible Niagara River Greenway Reforms Sought
"creating a linear system of parks, and conservation areas, linked by multi-use trails". How is that ever going to happen unless there is a physical plan in place to link parks, conservation areas, and trails. While this helps to...
  • Commented on Catholic Health Seeks Additional On-Site Parking
Good parking is underground. Okay parking is in ramps. Bad parking is surface. or something like that....
  • Commented on Catholic Health Seeks Additional On-Site Parking
This is not a bad location for a large parking garage. The streets that it fronts are access drives to and from the 33 and so the building is well organized on the site - except that in reference to...
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
I guess i was thinking a chain ferry..which they have in saugatuck, michigan. i have never seen a cable ferry....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
what happens when they move their business to Hamburg? Workers in Tonawanda have an additional 20 minute commute time to get to Hamburg. And adding 20 minutes to the commute time with skyway removal isn't realistic - taking route 5...
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
agree with you there.. what is the alternative plan? and why wasn't it studies alongside the route 5 reconstruction? However I remember the State DOT commissioner stating "the reconstruction of route 5 will not impact the ability to remove the...
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
the alternative is a pedestrian bridge. a cable ferry is not realistic and paying $8 to cross the river in a water taxi is also not going to draw too many people so basically everything in Buffalo becomes a drive.....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
Or it could occur at the Erie street connection....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
That makes absolutely no sense. Physically that is impossible....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
Right.. And say you are enjoying a walk around canal side and would like to go to the lighthouse for a tour and explore the times beach nature preserve you can always swim there. And on top of it the...
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
Granted there are many things to resolve but the alternative is not a skyway at grade and the state must do its due diligence and determine what the scenarios are based on current and progressive planning strategies not 1950s highway...
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
Stand at the central wharf and watch traffic. Bulk of noise is the skyway....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
They would not drop it at its exact location as a surface road. Firstly that would be impossible and second you'd hire planners to configure the road in a workable configuration....
  • Commented on The Skyway's The Limit?
Don't forget... It's noisy. The only thing that functions well next to is "rock the harbor". Otherwise it cuts parcels into awkward shapes making canal side less developable, eats up several blocks downtown, and is makes a ton of noise....
  • Commented on Part of Buffalo Billion to Assist with Parkway Removal in Falls
There are some great design opportunities with this i just hope that they have a good (great) designer associated with this project. It's not just a matter of modifying the roadways. The simulation (1st image) leaves a lot to be...
  • Commented on Paver aka Puncture Alley
I walked across them and they are not set flush to each other and i don't see them staying in place long term...they are nice pavers but need to be ripped out and installed someplace they make more sense....
  • Commented on Paver aka Puncture Alley
the location and workmanship of the pavers is questionable. I don't understand how this was a good idea. I wish there was big picture thinking when it came to the outer harbor.. you would have less chance for this random...
  • Commented on East Canal Project Starts - RFP for Remainder of Donovan Block Coming Soon
If Retail was not something Benderson considered viable here, how did they become designated developer for Canalside which as to have a significant retail component? Maybe they were waiting to find out if Bass Pro was going to happen and...
  • Commented on East Canal Project Starts - RFP for Remainder of Donovan Block Coming Soon
go to the following link: http://www.earthcam.com/client/erie/ Canals in the middle, donovan to the lower left, east canal just above donovan, webster block on left at the top. if the link doesn't work go to eriecanalharbor.com and then click at the...
  • Commented on East Canal Project Starts - RFP for Remainder of Donovan Block Coming Soon
The first issue with the donovan is that Benderson was given a free pass regarding the design guidlines. The design guidelines stipulated active retail frontage on the donovan by building out the base of the building to the sidewalk and...
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
i don't know what privately financed project has ever come to a "screeching halt" in Buffalo because of design criticism. I would say none unless someone can prove otherwise....
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
The rinks linking to the arena on the top level was not a huge concern..just the compressed space created by the parking garage which crossed Perry at a lower elevation and runs into the facade of the arena. they could...
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
thank you for your esteemed opinion but you can consider us fans of this project like we are fans of the sabres. criticism is part of the game. don't be so disgusted....
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
to be honest i always looked at the previous tower design and thought 'Miami'. I didn't think it looked right with all the blue glass and white curved facade. But even with a more rectangular design it could be nicer...
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
I agree... A bit of fumbling by the city..or should i say poor stick handling....
  • Commented on HARBORcenter Officially Underway- Design Evolving
I don't mind the redesign if they also simplified the lower floors as well. It's as if two different buildings have been merged together...It's not very cohesive....
  • Commented on 21st Century Park proposed for Outer Harbor
we need an outer harbor masterplan that integrates parkland and development with a street system that can all be phased in over time. And the point of the parkland is to create incentive for development as much as it is...
  • Commented on Development Road Trip: Ithaca
its not "everywhere is better" but rather just a reminder that while people love mocking those calling for new buildings built to the sidewalk with retail and mixed use these projects do happen and even so close as Ithaca...You don't...
  • Commented on Development Road Trip: Ithaca
And the one building in Buffalo they are building to the sidewalk they plan to build over the sidewalk bulging onto the public right of way negatively impacting public space. While nothing will ever be perfect, most of these new...
