Posted The Sabres and ECHDC to Buffalo Rising
Everyone's talking about the proposed plans for Canal Side. Whether its positive or negative, it's obviously a really big deal. It used to be that a Sabres game or trip to Pearl Street was a rare occasion for most Western New Yorkers to get close to the waterfront. Thanks to the efforts of the ECHDC, the waterfront attracted 200,000 people this summer through various activities. And this plan looks to change commerce in downtown Buffalo even further. Kevin Sylvester headed over to ECHDC headquarters and spoke with Stan Eckstut of Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects and Rep. Brian Higgins to learn more about the proposed design.Part 1:Part 2:...

Posted The Ramsi Tick Concert Series Can't Be Missed to Buffalo Rising
Ramsi Tick loved music since his early days in Buffalo. In true 'rags-to-riches' fashion, he went from a modest upbringing to spearheading an incredible concert series that you may know nothing about. "It's one of those 'best kept secrets,'" Peter Angelakos, Ramsi P. Tick Concert Series volunteer told me, "but we don't want it to be a secret." Tick wanted to offer Buffalo the chance to view world-class musical talent by masterful performers. After looking for venues, Holy Trinity Church answered the call. Tick passed away in 1989, but Phil Rehard, Concert Manager at UB, felt that the series was too important to simply end.The series is completely funded by subscription ticket sales, and every penny goes to the artists. "Unfortunately, the church had to make some tough decisions," Angelakos said. "But we're taking it to Nichols, and it's been the perfect marriage."This season boasts an impressive list of musical...

Posted ECHDC Board Meeting: Canal Side, Aud Seats, Summer Wrap up, more to Buffalo Rising
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation met today to discuss the on-going process of revitalizing their charge in Buffalo. First up, the ECHDC board, led by Jordan Levy, discussed the use of the Donovan Building lot for event parking with Mark Croce's Skydeck Corporation. Skydeck submitted proposed to pay for temporary use of the lot for $91,682 through April 6. Their bid was the highest by close to $10,000. The funds will be used for further waterfront development. Levy also pointed out that Skydeck will be using the lot if the Sabres make the playoffs, garnering more money for the corporation."Let's hope the team makes the playoffs," Levy said, poking a bit of fun at Larry Quinn."Let's hope next year it'll [the Donovan Building] be under construction," he added.Moving on, the board addressed the $11 million in funds they lent to the NFTA in order to prevent expiration. The NFTA...
