Lou Gramm at Lafayette Square: Among the most distinctive and powerful voices to emerge from '70s and '80s rock radio, Lou Gramm has undoubtedly etched his place in music history. The vocalist and co-writer on more than a dozen gold and platinum albums, Gramm is best known for his work with the rock supergroup Foreigner. Born in Rochester, NY, as Lou Grammatico, he spent most of the late '60s and early '70s drumming in regional rock bands. Gramm and Foreigner are best known for penning such hits as "Hot Blooded," "Double Vision," "Juke Box Hero" and "Urgent."

In a statement released by management, Ian Hunter will not be able to perform as scheduled, due to a severe back injury. We wish Ian Hunter a speedy recovery. Opening up this evening of performances will be Willie Nile.

Eleven year old James (fourth from left) has been golfing since he was four, and when I tell you this kid can hit a golf ball... well, it's a sight to see. We just happened to be walking by one of the tees at Delaware Park, when our attention was drawn to this young golfer and his encouraging supporters. After watching James hit a few balls, we decided to approach and ask a few questions.

It turns out that James learned to play golf at an early age through the Inner City Fan Club for Golfing. The program is designed to give inner city kids a chance to play and compete at the same level as players from other clubs throughout Western New York. Not only does the ICFCG promote golfing in Buffalo, it nurtures these kids in other aspects of life. The club places a great deal of importance on c…

Ok, the Buffalo Movie Club is tentatively planning an upcoming movie night. Dave, the club's organizer is a little stumped for a great movie out there. If anyone has seen any of the following movies, can you give him a heads up (by commenting) as to what to see and what to avoid. We have heard that the documentary, March of the Penquins, was a labor of love (over four years in the making), and is a movie not to be missed. If you are not familiar with the Buffalo Movie Club, or are looking for the club's email, click here. Below are the selections for the Market Arcade for Saturday August 6…

The Thalaza Bakery and Restaurant recently opened on Grant Street at Lafayette. Sergio (pictured in photo) a local restaurateur and baker, moved back to Buffalo a short time ago to follow his dream; baking some incredible breads and desserts for a city he feels might really appreciate different cuisines from a variety of cultures.

Hispanic, Italian, French, and Cuban breads are baked fresh every day, and sandwiches such as their sopprasatta and prosciutto are big hits with the local lunch crowd. Sergio and his business partner have been toying with the idea of sidewalk grilling to add a bit more atmosphere to the frontage of their space, as well as to serve up some mean shish kebobs. The Thalaza Bakery and Restaurant also serves a variety of desserts, including bread puddings, lavender cheese cake, homemad…

The Super Intense Decision Show

queenseyes

The Super Intense Decision Show (August 4-7) is an interactive multimedia event incorporating a live performance driven by several super intense decisions the audience makes, from choosing which seat to sit in to who the next Supreme Court Justice will be. The performance will feature terrorist drills, game shows and shocking performances as well as an interactive DVD titled "The Real Dream Cabaret Chooses Your Own Adventure." The DVD is based upon the familiar Choose Your Own Adventure format of Children's fiction from the mid-1980's, in which the reader is able to define the direction of the story. The video is shot entirely with POV shots, and the first choice made by the viewers, whether to wake up or go back to sleep, defines the entire experience for the audience. If the viewers wake up, they experien…

Just thought you might like to see this whimsical 'garden village' that we found on Norwood Avenue this past weekend during the Garden Walk. Arlan Peters really outdid himself this summer by recreating this miniature wooded forest scene that runs along the side of his house. The garden moss was constantly being watered by a fine mist (inspired by the misters found in a supermarket's veggie section) and a rolling stream ran through the entire work. The scene is complete with miniature water falls, a working water wheel and windmill, stone bridges, and little toy horses. The village and it's cottages are surrounded by stone and pebble walls, which blend seamlessly into the wood beneath Arlan's porch. The plant life was perfectly chosen as well... tiny pine trees planted next to creeping ivy…

A woman who has just given birth to the perfect little baby discovers she now looks like a sex bomb, thanks to breast feeding, and on a hot night out with hubby, escapes in a cheesy Mexican restaurant and has a torrid romp with sex-starved Richard Gere who happens to be sitting across the bar from them. Chaos ensues.

My Hair Piece was first performed in Chicago in 1999 at the Rhinocerous Festival at Lunar Cabaret. Justin Hayford, reviewing it for the prominent arts newspaper, Chicago Reader, said: You've got to have something to offer if you're going to wade into the crowded pool of solo performance in Chicago. Dana Block... shows she's got the writers' chops... [she] writes with efficiency and flair... sh…
