As a long time Buffalo resident, and now a unhappy Los Angeles resident, I find the BR website summing up exactly what I miss about Buffalo, and why I want to move back. I came out here to work in the film industry, and while I have had my share of good fortune, this area is ultimately not for me. My girlfriend has another year of school out here, so I have decided to stick it out another year, but was wondering if there was anyway that I could help contribute …

Inspired by the Sex Pistols' first Northern England date (in 1976, at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall, a pivotal event memorialized in the film 24 Hour Party People), guitarist Bernard Sumner and bass player Peter Hook formed legendary British post-punk group Joy Division, and recruited troubled singer Ian Curtis. Famous for the dark intensity of its performances, Joy Division was, by 1980, England's hottest band, destined to influence countless artists throughout the 80s, 90s and up to today. Unfortunately, the band's dark persona was sealed in myth when Ian Curtis hung himself in May, 1980. Subsequently, the alternative rock anthem "Love Will Tear Us Apart" reached UK #13 and the group's new album, Closer, reached UK #6.

Email of the week... maybe the year.
I'm visiting out from California this week working on a software venture with Professor Mike Frisch over at University of Buffalo (pre-production software for oral history and documentary video) & I'm also a documentary filmmaker with most of my work centered on "shared history" and community-level storytelling.
However, that being said, I'm just so enamored with Buffalo! As a California native, but we don't get this level of community connection or even interest in history since most people are from elsewhere--albeit, I'm also really involved in Northern California with political, community and "social good" entrepreneurialism--but "there's just something about Buffalo..."
I'd like to bring to Buffalo and inve…

The Buffalo Bike Posse is still running strong. They were our scheduled header at the top of todays page, so it was fortuitous that I ran into them yesterday at Hoyt Lake. This group has kept the city streets lively all summer long with their menagerie of bikes and their yellow banana shirts. A little info on the group-
A few things about Buffalo Bike Posse: We currently have about 15-20 'regulars' who go every week (the number has dwindled since a lot of us went away to colle…
