A backward glance at the Revival of Chippewa Street
Mark Goldman
For over forty years the massive, square block of poured concrete that sits like a giant football field in downtown Buffalo between Washington, Chippewa and Ellicott Streets has been a ishovel readyi surface parking lot. Flanked by the Market Arcade complex on Main Street and the great row of late 19th century buildings that house Maureenis Wholesale Florists and The Golden Swan on Ellicott Street, this enormous space was once, believe it or not, one of the great public market plac…

Guerilla Gardeners, that is. Yes folks, the City of Buffalo Guerilla Gardeners (CBGGis) struck again last night, this time at a neglected little plot at the foot of Court Street downtown, right across from City Hall and next to a busy bus stop. Inspired by some recent support from as far away as California to the west and Massachusetts to the east, the Guerillas felt they needed to make one more planting effort before packing away their trow…

The St. Calasanctius mural is really quite beautiful. The craftsmanship that went into the piece is impressive. From the details to the coloring of the work, this mural is a welcome addition to the Buffalo State Campus.

The Old Pink was written up in GQ Magazine (a while ago) for having an incredible fried bologna sandwich. The snippet was called e21 dishes worth traveling fori, and I would have to agree that this sandwich ranks very high on the bar food scale. The Pink is Allentownis claim to nightlife fame. The bar is open to 4+ am, and if you think about it, the evening doesnit even get going there until about 1am. Thatis one of the reasons the grill behind the bar is so popular. After dr…

Last night, Byron Brown held a "youth rally". According to a fax sent out by Byron Brown's campaign manager, Steven Casey, if a kid brought along an adult of voting age, he was entered in a raffle to win:
A pair of Air Force One sneakers! An X Box! Harry Potter Books!
Of course, the Brown campaign forgot to send the flyers to every single college paper in the city. The flyers were also done in word using comic sans serif in 12 and 18 point font. 'Cause nothing says "serious politics" like comic sans serif.
Also - look at the progression of those prizes. Byron Brown wants kids to …

Marylou, co-owner of Morning Glory Cafe, heads out every day to deliver great food all over downtown Buffalo. She and her business partner Pat have really done an incredible job marketing their food to some of the bigger businesses in town. The size of the baskets that they fill up has expanded as the demand for their food grows. Morning Glory is a little oasis on Porter that caters to both a devoted breakfast and lunch crowd. They have managed to carve out a nice niche in the competitive restaurant market here in the city, and it is partially due to their ever-growing delivery business that their restaurant continues to flourish.
Unfortunately, Morning Glory does not deliver their food on a 'per meal' basis. That means that if you're hankering for one of their ki…

iBring the little Monsters to Elmwoodi was the theme of this years 'Safe Trick or Treat', but it seemed as though there were far more Disney Princesses and Spider Man costumes than anything. It could not have been a more perfect day for this event in Buffalo. It was as sunny as Southern California and a busy as a Manhattan rush hour. It was a very warm 60 degrees, which is hot for Buffalo in October, and the leaves on the trees were j…
