Buffalo's Running Routes: Build the Database
buffalorising
A few weeks ago, I wrote about a website for mapping and measuring running routes. It's called mapmyrun.com. After using it for a couple of weeks, I found out the the USATF web site actually has a better version of the same program. Every Sunday I map and post the routes our training group will be running that weekend. Since we've been at the ridge a few times this year, when you go to the site, you'll see accurate measurements of some of the more popular routes out there, like "Cheap Ward" and Gartman Rd. I also have a number of routes that start and finish at the store.
It would be a great service to runners from WNY to have as many routes posted here as possible. In order to make it easy to search for them, I would suggest using Buffalo as the city…

Uniland Development is preparing to begin construction of its planned office building at 285 Delaware Avenue. The five-story, 117,000 sq.ft. building is slated for the long-time grassy lot located next to WGRZ-TV north of Chippewa Street. The good news is the company has redesigned the project from an earlier brick and pre-cast four-story building set-…

Could you write a post about the slow decay of Bryant Street between Elmwood and Ashland. We now have three vacant storefronts, and several neighbors who do not take care of their properties (rite aid and kfc). This section of Bryant (Elmwood Village) needs major attention! Thanks, R. Pierce
Yes, this area needs some help. But it would not take much to get it back up to snuff. Before I get to that block, let's discuss the whole neighborhood. For example, down one block from there, the new Frizlen Group project (see below) is underway, and I bet ya that we will see some huge results in the way of successful retailers enter into the spaces on the first floor of that build. Next, look at Mythos... those guys did a fantastic job on that restaurant both inside and out. The Junior League also made a nice transition into the old Vitamin City and took down the horrendous yellow awning.

One of the little-known iinstitutionsi in Buffalo is the fraternity of people who regularly walk their dogs in Delaware Park, particularly in that section of the park bounded by Delaware, Rumsey Road, Lincoln Parkway, and Hoyt Lake. I call them the Delaware Park Dogwalkers. Some have been at it for more than twenty years. Most of the current dog walkers know each other by sight and by dog (and dogis name). Eventually, they learn each otheris names. Some become good friends. They are drawn together by their love of dogs, and keep returning for the special camaraderie that idog peoplei share.

We just attended the eofficiali unveiling of the New Burchfield-Penney Art Center on the Buffalo State College campus. In addition to unveiling the renderings, architect Robert Siegal (photo left) of Gwathmey Siegel and Associates Architects was on hand to discuss the details of the building. The design, he said, is intended t…
