Record Turnout for Turkey Trot

queenseyes

Fleet Feet On Elmwood Avenue reports that there was a record turnout for this year's Turkey Trot. This is one of the city's most highly anticipated races and every year ex-pats flock back to Buffalo to enter and run. What a perfect day for racing. Thanksgiving 2006 had to be the best weather day ever for this 111 year old tradition. With a record turnout of over 8100 registrants and 7500 finishers this one will be hard to top next year. The perfect conditions led to some very fast times. This year's overall winners, Kyle O'Brein and Jackie Rzepecki ran 24:20 and 28:49. Kyle's time was the fastest I could find going back to 2001, while Jackie's was second only to Allison Carr's 28:44 back in 2003. -Fleet Feet

UPON FURTHER REVIEW: What You Missed

It was the best Buffalo Bills game that almost no one in Buffalo saw, at least since The Comeback almost 14 years ago.

Back when Frank Reich led the Bills back from a 35-point deficit against the extinct Houston Oilers in a January 1993 playoff game, though, the old-fashioned satellite technology was easily pirated by homes and businesses throughout Western New York. But advances in technology, along with an aggressive crackdown waged by the National Football League, pirated broadcasts have become a rarity.

After not being able to watch last weeks game (thanks to my dvr not recording what it's told to record) I was lucky enough to be able to catch the Bills latest installment since I live outside of the blackout area. Not only was it a great game overall, but we also came out with a win which is what matters most.

The biggest surprise of this game was the return of Willis McGahee. Broken ribs and all, he came back like the warrior that he is and contributed two touchdowns. He looked solid all day when his o-line gave him holes to work with. I'd give Willis the game ball today for his tough play and amazing performance.

Another surprise was the fact that the Bills scored on three straight possessions in the …

What a day for a blackout.

A forecast for predicting 50 degrees and partly cloudy skies at kickoff will make the first non-televised Bills game of the year more bearable for the football addicted. At least they can distract themselves by raking leaves, cutting the grass one last time or simply wandering around aimlessly.

The unseasonably mild conditions won,Aeot be much help against the Jacksonville Jaguars, though.

Snow and/or rain, cold and, especially, swirling winds usually make Ralph Wilson Stadium a miserable place for visiting teams, especially those with Florida addresses. With feeble gusts only expected to reach 12 mph, Buffalo,Aeos atmospheric advantage should be non-existent.

The Jaguars don,Aeot look …

Take That, Hosers

Must have been a long ride back to Toronto.

Buffalo,Aeos comeback from an early two-goal deficit and the closing flurry that snapped a 4-4 tie Wednesday night quieted the thousands of Maple Leafs fan who smell up the HSBC Arena four times each season.

OK, probably not. At least not for long.

But Sabres fans can take satisfaction in knowing that the 7-4 victory made some very sad lives even bleaker.

Football isn't part of the American Thanksgiving Day tradition.

Boring football is.

That's largely because the perpetually dismal Detroit Lions get to host one of the games each year.

Nothing against the annual festivities in Detroit ,Aei spending Thanksgiving morning in the parking lot outside the stadium is something every football fan should experience at least once.

Turkeys deep-frying in garbage cans, grown men kissing each other full on the mouth while others struggle to remain upright, all before noon ,AeP OK, it's sort of like the morning of every home game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, except with the turkeys an…

A Touch of Reality

Don't call it a slump. Not quite yet, anyway.

But the Buffalo Sabres hit the darkest patch of a so-far brilliant season tonight, giving up three third-period goals in Ottawa, losing to the Senators to the second time in four nights.

In most of the franchise's 35 previous seasons, such a set of circumstances would have been cause for much wailing and gnashing of teeth, at least among those few who were paying attention to hockey in November.

The 4-1 loss, though, puts the record for these Sabres at a still-glittering 16-3-1.

Thanks to the wonders of modern wireless technology, this edition of Uneducated Guess is being written from in front of a rounded-screen television carrying the Michigan-Ohio State game.

Let's just say the 3-6 Buffalo Bills' visit to Houston to take on the equally 3-6 Texans probably won't be quite as riveting. That would have been true even before the Wolverines' legendary former coach, Bo Schembechler, died Friday morning, moments after taping his weekly television show and less than a day after addressing this year's team.
