It's Christmas weekend, so in the spirit of the holiday, we're not going to dwell on the fact the most important Bills game in two years won't be televised in the Buffalo area.

Or the archaic National Football League policy that forces the blackout.

Or the remarkable arrogance showed by the NFL in scheduling a full complement of games on Christmas Eve, rather than shifting the bulk of Week 16 to Saturday.

Instead, we'll focus on what has to happen for next week's Bills game, in Baltimore on New Year's Eve, to be equally meaningful.

It was another huge division rivalry this weekend at the Ralph. Although the game was not sold out, the stadium was louder than ever and the Bills responded perfectly. Last week was the first big overall team win of the season. This week, the Bills continued that play with a huge win over the Miami Dolphins. We played solid on all sides of the ball with another complete team win by Buffalo. The fish were coming off a huge win against New England last week in which they shut out the Patriots 21-0 in a huge defensive effort. It was a complete reversal of fate this week as the Bills defense was the one that stepped up and shut down Mike Mularky's offense.

Our defense was a huge part of our win yesterday, but …

Fewer than 75,000 people in Western New York and Southern Ontario will see Sunday,Aeos annual visit to Orchard Park by the Miami Dolphins, thanks to the National Football League,Aeos antiquated blackout policy.

The dictate ,Aei which might as well be called ,AeuThe Buffalo Rule,,Aeu since it hasn,Aeot been invoked anywhere else all season ,Aei dates to the days when televisions had antennas on top of them and computers used cards with little holes punched in them.

The policy served the league well over the years, but its usefulness has long expired. In an age when teams play their games in stadiums with values measure…

B...I....L...L...S! Bills! Bills! Bills!

The Bills had nothing to lose going into the Meadowlands this Sunday going up against the playoff contending Jets. Eric Mangini has been coaching his team to some great wins in recent weeks, and thought this home game would be another easy win. The Bills had other ideas.

Willis McGahee loves running against the Jets and it showed today. He ran so well he got sick and had to change jerseys after throwing up on himself in the first half. He came back strong and continued to pound the rock down the Jets throats. I'm excited about McGahee's performance today and would like to see more games like this from him for the rest of the season.

Our defense was the other story for the Bills today. We played tough …

At first glance, things look pretty grim for Buffalo today against the New York Jets.

The Bills highly permissive run defense (they've allowed a horrid 197.3 yards per game on the ground over the last three weeks) figures to be further weakened by the loss of linebacker Angelo Crowell, who is out for the year with a broken leg. And rookie safety Donte Whitner, drafted in the first round in large part for his ability against the run, is listed as questionable with a sore hamstring.

With Cedrick Houston, who slashed Green Bay for 105 yards and scores during the Jets' 38-10 win last week, sharing carries with Kevan Barlo…

From Buffalo to Beijing

Top amateur boxers from across Western New York take the first step toward the 2008 Beijing Olympics this weekend during the NIagara District Association tournament at McKinley High School on Elmwood Avenue.

The tournament features Buffalo's Lionell Thompson, who is ranked fourth in the nation at 178 pounds by USA Boxing and is one of the area's top Olympic hopefuls.

For Bills' Fans' Eyes Only

The Bills' season was not stellar. That doesn't mean that Bills' fans rest on their laurels. So what do you do when your team is not playing as well as you had hoped? You make Bills montage videos! This link/YouTube video was submitted this morning to brighten any fan's day. The weather outside may be looking a bit snowy... just like some of the best games at home field. Sit back and relax and watch some diehards enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of a few of the submitters' favorite games (and some real Buffalo's to boot!)

Shoulda, coulda, woulda....

Not being able to watch a Bills game on television in Buffalo is rough. It's something that our fans aren't used to dealing with, but in the last two weeks they have. What is the cause of the games not selling out? It can't be the weather, it wasn't even that bad today. Maybe people are saving cash for the holiday's, but the Sabres games are selling out. By process of elimination the reason has to be that our team is much to inconsistent.

The first half of the game was a forgettable one. The Bills managed to do nothing on offense. Our defense was the only part of the team keeping us in it. Our offense was struggling to make first downs and our special teams were battling with the wind.

J.P. was all over the p…

Record Turnout for Turkey Trot

queenseyes

Fleet Feet On Elmwood Avenue reports that there was a record turnout for this year's Turkey Trot. This is one of the city's most highly anticipated races and every year ex-pats flock back to Buffalo to enter and run. What a perfect day for racing. Thanksgiving 2006 had to be the best weather day ever for this 111 year old tradition. With a record turnout of over 8100 registrants and 7500 finishers this one will be hard to top next year. The perfect conditions led to some very fast times. This year's overall winners, Kyle O'Brein and Jackie Rzepecki ran 24:20 and 28:49. Kyle's time was the fastest I could find going back to 2001, while Jackie's was second only to Allison Carr's 28:44 back in 2003. -
