iBring the Little Monsters to Elmwoodi

iBring the little Monsters to Elmwoodi was the theme of this years 'Safe Trick or Treat', but it seemed as though there were far more Disney Princesses and Spider Man costumes than anything. It could not have been a more perfect day for this event in Buffalo. It was as sunny as Southern California and a busy as a Manhattan rush hour. It was a very warm 60 degrees, which is hot for Buffalo in October, and the leaves on the trees were just starting to change color for autumn. Elmwood Avenue was alive and bristling with families walking their s…

Last weekend, the diggers showed up on the Richardson Towersi front lawn to tear down the old dilapidated bungalows that have sat vacant on the property for years. The structures were built in 1953 as staff residences for the psych-center, but in recent years they have amounted to nothing but pure eyesores and a safe haven for young kids to do whatever young kids do when they are left to their own devices.

La Dolce Vita

I go by here all the time and for some reason I never went in. Now I feel like a dope. This cafe/bistro sports some really tasty food, including the Insalada alla Carmelina displayed in the photo. Baby greens, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts and kalamata olives topped with goat cheese and a house vinaigrette...that's good as it is. But what takes this to the next level is their homemade pane tostato...brushed with olive oil and dusted with Romano cheese it has a real kick that perfectly complements the salad.

The salad was named after a longtime employee, Carmelina, who apparently makes some notably excellent coffee concoctions. She wasn't there when I was but I'll definitely be going back to try them out. As well as the decadent looking pastries.…
