Over the course of the last few months Buffalo has been graced with the presence of a new video blog entity. Buffalo Music Cooperative (or as I’ll be referring to it, BMC) has been focusing its sights on the very talented musicians of the city, and this Saturday, May 14th, BMC has a special treat for its listeners. They will be filming their season finale in front of a live audience at Resurgence Brewery and everyone’s invited to the party. For the season 1 finale, music fans at Resurgence Brewery will be able to hear acoustic sets from The Tins…

Feverbox is: Griffin Smith- Guitar/ Vocals Nick Kelly- Bass/ Vocals Josh Little- Drums/ Vocals The guys in Buffalo’s newest indie rock outfit, Feverbox are sitting with me around their dining room table. I’ve been watching them adamantly work on the mix of their single “Castles” which is playing over a pair of speakers. The group teased the track by posting a live acoustic version of the song on YouTube earlier this year. We’re quietly listening when bass player Nick Kelly breaks the silence by commenting on how the vocals need to be louder. It should be noted that everything Feverbox…

Once again Yace Booking has put together a phenomenal line-up of local bands that will be taking over Buffalo’s Gypsy Parlor this Friday, April 15th. Since the company’s creation in mid-2015 the guys over at Yace have shown that they clearly know what’s-what among a city that’s filled to the brim with talent. First up are indie newcomers Feverbox. They may be new, but in name only.  These guys have been around the Buffalo music scene for ages, first as members of the recently retired Inlite, then as the backing band for Royal Tongues. The group has most recently been…

While Thursday is a bit early for my weekend pick, Good Friday is technically a holiday so your weekend is starting a little early with Yali’s debut EP release at Mohawk Place on March 24th. You might be asking yourself right now, “Travis, what is a Yali?” Excellent question. Yali is a local Buffalo indie group consisting of Humble Bragger guitarist/ bassist Byran Zells along with Jack Murphy. The duo released their EP titled “Ancient Heart” on March 18th. The EP consists of 4 tracks that were recorded in the time-frame of August through October of 2015. The band’s lead…

This Friday at Mohawk Place will showcase the return of Rochester’s up and coming buzz band, Kopps. The electronic/ dance quartet has been on the rise for a while, now recently finishing a huge tour with fellow hometown friends Joywave. This is an act not to miss – be sure to bring your dancing shoes out from the back of your closet. Last time Kopps were in town they brought the house down. Preceding Kopps will be Buffalo’s favorite experimental pop act Lesionread. The once “one-man band” that featured ringleader Shawn E. Lewis on every instrument has extended itself into…

This Saturday night is shaping up to be quite the party over at Nietzsche’s with two of Buffalo’s buzz bands rolling onto Allen Street. Headlining the night is Sixties Future, who will be bringing their brand of Americana rock ‘n’ roll to one of Buffalo’s hardest working venues. Definitely expect to hear some tunes off of their highly infectious debut EP as well as some newer songs that will be featured on their next release. These guys have been on my radar for a while for a good reason. With Chris Couche’s growling vocals and the distinct musical tightness that Sixties…

Humble Braggers are: Tom Burtless:  Lead Vocals/Guitar/Bass Brian Zells: Guitar/Bass/ Back-up Vocals Matt Chavanne: Drums Humble Braggers hasn’t always been “that band”, but with two songs featured on national television and with the release of one of Buffalo’s breakout records of 2015, an EP called “Disposable Friends, they’re starting to garner the reputation. It may be hard to believe, but not long ago lead singer and songwriter for the group, Tom Burtless, was writing and recording all the instrument and vocal parts by himself on his computer. In fact, all of the band’s previously recorded tracks including the “Disposable Friends” EP…

Buffalo’s own psych-rock act Sleepy Hahas will be landing at Frizzy’s this Saturday. The band will be celebrating bassist Kevin Pryle’s birthday the only way they know how; with thumping psychedelic jams, a sweet light show and probably a lot of Genny Cream. On hosting the event at Frizzy’s – a venue not known for having much live music – lead vocalist and guitarist Pat Butler said “Frizzy’s almost never has shows and after being frequent customers of their fine establishment for quite some time it’s cool to get back in and play”. Sleepy Hahas have been quiet as of…

One of Buffalo’s hardest working musicians, Sonny Baker, will be performing a solo set this Saturday, January 30th in the 9th Ward at Babeville. Baker (who also performs with many other Buffalo based bands, such A Hotel Nourishing and Lazlo Hollyfeld) has most recently released his “flesh it out” EP with Steak and Cake Records. The EP is a collection of alternative songs that showcase Sonny’s ability to create gutsy guitar riffs that mix perfectly with his narrative of slacker rock vocals. At times you can hear the echo of Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus or even Krill (be sure to listen…

Sixties Future is: Chris Couche – Lead Vocals Mo Halliday – Bass Adam Clukey – Guitars Steve Tripi – Drums Jake Malone-Brancato – Keyboards Sixties Future is hard to describe. Even when you hear the name you’ll find yourself asking what you’re getting into. The Buffalo, NY based All-American Rock band is a little bit of self-proclaimed “dad-rock”, in a sense that they’re tipping their hats to Springsteen and Tom Petty while still letting you know that it’s 2016. They’re a band that has the edge of The National and Gaslight Anthem but remains adamant about sticking to the simple…
