Green Options Buffalo (GO-Buffalo) is launching the fourth season of our popular bicycle-sharing program, Buffalo Blue Bicycle. A fleet of seventy-two refurbished bicycles, painted metallic blue, are set to be put out at "hubs" this month offering an environmentally sustainable transportation option for the people of Buffalo.
Buffalo Blue Bicycle has been in full swing, lending bicycles free of charge to its members from May through October, since 2006. Over the last three years, the program's usage has multiplied sixteen times and its membership has seen a 240% increase. In 2008, Buffalo Blue Bicycle had a fleet of nearly 60 bicycles, utilized by 171 members, for a total of 964 trips. This year, with a fleet increase of nearly 20%, the program anticipates its greatest growth and usage to date.
