Love of Small Things: Sample Restaurant

I stopped by Sample last Tuesday and was reminded why I'm never disappointed there. A couple of friends were in town, and we were in the mood for a light dinner.  On any normal weekday, the atmosphere at Sample is perfect for a relaxing meal with some great friends,  but Tuesdays are customer appreciation days at Sample.  Translation: Half price off their menu.  I started out with the pomegranate cocktail, which was light and bubbly.  You really can't go wrong with anything on their drink menu; like everything else at Sample, the drinks are...thoughtful.

Mr. Food Raves About the Taste of Buffalo
"Mr. Food" Art Ginsburg is supporting the Independent Health Foundation's Healthy Options program. He checked out last year's Taste of Buffalo and was pleased with the fact that it is the only food festival in the United States to require all participating restaurants to have a healthy option. 
The Healthy Options program of the Independent Health Foundation works with local restaurants to prepare healthy menu choices when customers are dining out. They have worked with over 50 restaurants here in Buffalo.  All items contain no more than 30 percent of calories from

Urban Roots is Looking for Volunteers
Urban Roots Community Garden Center is looking for volunteers to help out with the sustainable garden for this year's Junior League Show House. The garden will provide a great example of how a garden can easily be maintained year-after-year with the help of a couple of tools and essential plants.  It will demonstrate how veggies under cold frames, a rain barrel, a potting shed, a pergola, native shrubs and trees, a compost tumbler and sculptures can all work together to make a garden beautiful, and at the same

It’s Time to Ride: for Roswell

Dust off your bikes and break out the water bottles because it's almost time for The Ride For Roswell.  More than 8,500 people are expected to participate in this annual event this year.  The event will start at the University at Buffalo's Baird Point in Amherst on Saturday, June 27th.
