Rabbi Bob Alper, Stand-up Comedian, 12/23

BobAlperpost2.jpgI almost couldn't believe this when I read it, but it sounds too good to miss: Bob Alper is the only rabbi in the country "who regularly addresses congregations that require a cover charge and a two-drink minimum." Talk about a lovely and 'unorthodox' way to celebrate the holidays!

Bob has performed everywhere from Hollywood's IMPROV to The Montreal Comedy Festival, in theaters throughout North America and London. His unique brand of intelligent, 100% clean humor appeals to everyone, grandmothers included. After graduating from Lehigh University, he was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, and became the first Jewish person ever to earn a doctorate from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served congregations in Buffalo and Philadelphia, where he continues to conduct High Holiday services.

He's been seen on Good Morning America, Showtime, the BBC, CNN, and was featured on Extra, TV's top-rated entertainment program, immediately following a segment on the size of Jennifer Lopez's buttocks. Today, Bob performs nearly 100 shows per year, drawing tremendous audience numbers and response. His humor is fast-paced and sophisticated, yet gentle -- a charming and affable comedian. Bob is the author of two books that further showcase his considerable talents: Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This, an inspirational collection now in its fifth printing, and the award-winning full-color cartoon book A Rabbi Confesses. He’s also produced two best-selling comedy CDs.

Temple Beth Zion, 805 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, 716.836.6565, 7:30 PM, $20-$25. Tickets also available at http://www.theatermania.com.
