One Possible Solution..

I didn't realize it when I wrote yesterday's rant about our need for getting our happy feet back, but one of the few dance events I've wound up in a full-body sweat at is happening Friday night at Mohawk Place. The Transmissions Dance Parties feature music from The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, Ladytron, Fischerspooner, The Rapture, Interpol, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Bjork. The Sneaker Pimps, Stone Roses, The Strokes, The Faint, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Hot Heat, Postal Service, Depeche Mode, Le Tigre....oh hell, go check out the playlists, it's easier.
They list themselves as "a bi-monthly dance party thrown at mohawk place by bill page and jason kyle. in other words an evening of synthpop, alternative and indie dance music." Don't let the lower-case letters fool you, though -- their September update states they had 450 people at their last show. This is one of the few places I've seen people of all ages (ok, well, my age) just as happy to hear a Michael Jackson track come up as those, oh, twenty-somethings. They have a Myspace page, too. $5, 10:30pm. See you there! Work off that turkey!
