The winners of the HarborCenter mural contest have been announced, and the works of art have been unveiled. Mural concepts by artists Thomas Paul Asklar and Matthew Sinclair Conroy were chosen using an online public voting system. The works of art were painted on formerly inconspicuous utilitarian doors along Scott Street.
Their mural symbolizes the renaissance of Buffalo and the new beginning of the Queen City, while paying tribute to its past.
Loading dock doors are obviously necessary to have at HarborCenter. Unfortunately they are ugly and add nothing to Canalside. Spicing them up with a couple of murals adds a sense of place to a visitor’s experience. Efforts such as this invite people to stick around and explore various pockets of the neighborhood. Whether it’s a mural or a water feature, the public expects to be entertained every step along the way. These new murals help to showcase a city that is steeped in history and culture.
