The Genesee Street Gateway Streetscape Project between E. Huron and Elm streets is rolling full stream ahead. Work is currently underway to create new landscaping, sidewalks, bike lanes, bike racks, lighting, bump-outs, street resurfacing, and green infrastructure enhancements.
The true scope of the work will be apparent when two islands along the street are wrapped up – one in front of Electric Tower to be called Remembrance Park and a second at Genesee/Chippewa/Ellicott will receive landscape treatments as well (see the diagrams).
Currently the sidewalks along the Genesee Gateway Complex are being completed, and unusual new benches have been installed. This streetscape project will be linked to the 500 block of Main Street and future work by the NYS Department of Transportation to calm traffic on the Elm/Oak Corridor.
Watts Architecture and Engineering and Stoss Landscape Urbanism prepared the Genesee Street plans.
