The Allentown Association has a new home. The association purchased 61 College Street, in the heart of the historic neighborhood. The inconspicuous house is located just a few doors south of Allen, and is in great company with a number of beautifully kept and restored homes. The plans are to put the association’s office on the first floor, and fix up an apartment rental on the second floor. The exterior of the house will be painted (hopefully something super colorful), while the interior will also be upgraded.
According to The Allentown Neighbor, the association lost is headquarters in the Red Jacket building due to flooding during renovations. After being outbid on a couple of other houses, the association picked up 61 College for $157,400. I think that it’s great to see the association relocate to more of a residential setting. Not only is it contributing to the growth of the neighborhood, it will also act as eyes and ears on the street. The upstairs apartment will also help to provide a supplemental income to offset the costs associated with owning a property. The association used almost its entire reserve fund to make the purchase.
