Waterfront fans… it’s time to get excited!
It looks as if Wilkeson Pointe is going to be the place to be this summer. Crews have rolled out a series of small cabins that will help to get the party started.
The first cabin (near the park entranceway) is being dedicated to bike rentals. That means that you can catch the Bike Ferry on foot, take a ride to the Outer Harbor, and rent a bike from there. Brilliant!
The second cabin is being dedicated to kayak and stand up paddle board rentals. The cabin is located in close proximity to the kayak launch that is situated in the bay.
The third cabin is more like a concession stand. Apparently, an arm of Rich Products Consumer’s Beverage will be operating the stand, which will service a large beer garden (called “The Pointe”), complete with food, Adirondack chairs and picnic tables.
Finally, there is a massive area that has been roped off for major events this summer. 14 festivals are already in line for this location, including the Buffalo Irish Festival.
Wilkeson Pointe already has a number of amenities in place, including permanent bathrooms, water taxi docking, wind sculptures, an awesome playground, a beach, volleyball courts, rain gardens, walking paths, wayfinding signage, and bike path connectivity. It’s also the perfect spot to pull up on your boat and drop anchor (see here).
Wilkeson Pointe has quickly gone from a sleepy little hideaway to a full fledge party spot – just watch as people start to catch on once everything is up and running. Most of these new features will be unveiled this weekend during Memorial Day weekend. Stay tuned to this website for further information on food and beverage, festivals, rental info, etc.
