Everyone is talking about green roofs these days, but honestly, what do we really know about them? We understand the environmental angle to a degree. At the same time, what exactly does it take to install a roof of this nature on your house?
For three days (June 17 – June 19), The Foundry is offering to teach people the ins and outs of green roof building. From the choices of materials, to hands on installation, to plant selections, the class participants will learn exactly what it takes to design and construct a green roof.
Learn:
- Selection of green roof materials
- Types of green roof systems
- Hands on installation
- Plant selection for green roofs
- Theory behind green roofs (water retention, decreased demand on combined sewer system, insulating properties)
Benefits from a green roof include air quality, wildlife friendly, water retainment, energy conservation, green space, and noise abatement. Not to mention that they’re aesthetically pleasing to look at.
The class is directed at students, professionals and others looking to learn about green building design.
