The Queen City Roller Girls are rockin’ and rollin’ these days. The roller derby league has been so successful in fact, that over 10,000 tickets have already been sold in the 2016 season. The sales figures are far beyond the numbers that were anticipated to date, and thus warrants a celebratory salute. Not only have the ticket sales been flying through the roof, the organization has also announced that it has set a record for “single game attendance mark (1,316) and new pre sale records.”
Obviously the move to Buffalo RiverWorks has been a smart one for the organization thus far. The facility is considered one of the best in the league, and is a big draw for out of state skaters who now recognize Buffalo as a prime roller derby destination. The striking sales and attendance numbers are also some of the most best in the entire modern era of women’s flat track roller derby (400 leagues worldwide), as reported by league, now in its 10th year.
“We have always had a great fan base in Western New York but making the move to Buffalo and having a world class venue like Riverworks has really helped us grow,” said QCRG PR Chair Dylan Powell. “We have some of the best fans in all of Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby and we as a league are committed to showing our fans we appreciate them by increasing our skill on the track and their experience at our games.”
Looking froward to the rest of the season:
- Two games left on their schedule this year to push this number even higher – the final Lake Effect Furies game of the year this Saturday at 2pm at Riverworks and the 2016 QCRG Cup Championship on June 10th that will see the Devil Dollies and Alley Kats do battle
- For the Furies this will be their last home game of 2016 as they prepare their return to Playoffs to represent Buffalo. They are under the Division 1 cut off currently, but will need a good result to stay there
- For the Dollies and Kats, the Dollies will be looking for their 3rd ever QCRG Cup Championship while the Alley Kats are looking for their 1st ever
Doors open for the game this Saturday at 1pm. First whistle is at 2pm.
