Adding momentum to the collective plea to downgrade our freeways that presently tear this city apart, Slow Roll Buffalo has managed to get the green light to take cyclists for a ride down the Scajaquada Expressway and the Kensington Expressway. In order to pull off the feat, Slow Roll has teamed up with GObike Buffalo, the Scajaquada Corridor Coalition, and the Restore Our Community Coalition, to draw attention to Olmsted’s original vision that has been squandered for decades. This cycling movement aims to put people first, over cars, in an action that will demonstrate that this city is ready for massive change when it comes to re-envisioning our disrupted urban fabric.
Reconnecting The Park with The Parade.
The Parkway Revival Ride will be led by a group of experienced safety-oriented cyclists – the Independent Health Squad and a Buffalo Police Department motorcade. Altogether, the ride will be ten miles long, cycled at a 8-10 miles per hour clip. Once the ride is finished, participants will gather at the Marcy Casino for an after party with food, drink and live music.
“From its birthplace in Detroit to here in Buffalo and beyond, Slow Roll had an amazing 2015, and we’re excited to pick up where we left off,” said Slow Roll Buffalo co-founder Tony Caferro. “The Parkway Revival Ride is only our first statement – while we’ll continue to keep Slow Roll free and fun for all, we’re pushing this social event to take on social causes, with many more to come.”
