On Wednesday April 27, 2016, starting at 6 pm, the Black Rock Historical Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians will be discussing the connection between the Fenian Invasion of Canada and the Easter Rising in Ireland 50 years later. Local Irish historians, Edward Patton and Craig Speers, will discuss the importance of these events, and how the initial invasion was an important precursor to the Easter Rising.
- Local historian and co-author of America’s Crossroads: Buffalo’s Canal Street/Dante Place; the Making of a City, Mr. Patton will explain how the Fenian movement in the United States kept the fires burning for a Free Ireland.
- Representing the Erie County Thomas Carroll Erie County Division 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Mr. Speers will discuss the main players and historic context of the Easter Rising as one of the pivotal events in modern Irish history.

The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. on April 27 at the Buffalo History Museum located at One Museum Court, Buffalo. Music from the Fenian songbook will be played by Rush the Growler and infantrymen from the “Buffalo 7th Regiment, Irish Army of Liberation” will welcome guests.
