After reporting that a long-vacant three-story building at the corner of Virginia Street and Prospect Avenue was in-line for a reuse project back in August of 2014, it looks as if work is finally underway. There are many who felt that this building would never last, to see a brighter day. After years of wondering if anyone would come to the rescue, it appears as if a big wish for the Lower West Side is finally being fulfilled.
Buffalo Ridge, LLC (1651 E. 23rd Street, Brooklyn NY 11229) has filed plans with The City, and workers are in the process of removing boarded up windows.
The redevelopment of this building, at this juncture, is perfectly timed with all of the public/private infrastructure and development progress taking place on Niagara Street, which is right around the corner. It’s going to be great to see the glass go in and the property cleaned up. For years, neighbors have mowed the lawn and safeguarded the house the best they could. Now it’s time for the building to stand on its own and give back to the community.
