From the producer of the lauded and ludicrous Milkie’s Comedy Open Mic comes a new monthly comedic showcase in this very same space – Milkie’s on Elmwood. “The home of Lance Diamond has been a nurturing and dynamic venue for the city’s comedy scene this last year and a half or so, and will continue to be home base for this newest offering from the bright, creative minds of the #NewBuffalo comedy movement,” said Kristy Rock, one of the promoters.
For this second installment of DROLL: An Evening of Comedic Entertainment, four performers tell a story about the day after their worst drunken night. The comedy sketch artists are: Brian Calmes, FatMann (photo left), Anne Kurtis, and Eric Lingenfelter (photo right).
“Every month we’ll ask a new set of performers a new question and wait for their response, in the form of a comedy sketch, monologue, song, character work, or anything at all that strikes their fancy,” Rock said.
This night of stand-up will also be using this showcase as a vehicle for short films, themed stand-up shows, short form improv, and more.
Buffalo’s underground comedy scene has been growing over the course of the last 8 or so years, ever since Buffalo comedy godmother Kristen Becker started the first weekly open mic at the acclaimed Nietzsche’s in Allentown. Since the advent of Helium Comedy Club, the comedy scene of the city of Buffalo has grown thrice-fold. The Milkie’s Comedy Open Mic has been a nurturing ground for much of this growth, and we are excited to offer yet another opportunity for the funny, bright people of our city to develop their art even further.
“We are encouraging our performers to stretch out of their comfort zones and work on humor muscles they might not have had a chance to work otherwise,” Rock said. The format for this new monthly show will be varied and thematic and different every show. It promises to be quite a hilarious delight for the comedy and theater fans of Buffalo, New York.
