After long last, Ashker’s new Café at 414 Amherst Street is preparing to open. This evening a number of friends and family were invited to take a sneak peek at the operation, which is scheduled to open shortly after the new year. Earlier in the day, I stopped in to check things out, and was very impressed at the transition that had occurred since first taking over the space over a year ago.
This particular Ashker’s is going to be called Hearth & Home – a name that perfectly suits the space. There are gorgeous wide-planked wood floors, accompanied by an antique pastry case, and an operational wood burning stove in one corner. The plan is create something that resembles a rustic cabin-esque, cozy atmosphere. While Ashker’s will still be serving cold pressed juices (made elsewhere) at the café, the concentration will be on the coffee (pour over or French press), espresso and smoothie experience. This location will also have a donut making machine, which is kind of a cool twist.
A look at the menu reveals a breakfast sandwich, Quiche, baked oatmeal, parfait, bakery pizza, hummus platter, pies, scones, corn bread, trail mix, chia seed pudding, hot chocolate, chai, and a bunch more sweet and savory items.
The opening of Hearth & Home is big news for Amherst Street, as there’s not really any place to go for these sorts of offerings. Ashker’s has made a name for itself in the city, due to its quality of offerings and its overall consistency. The Elmwood Avenue location is always rocking and rolling. Hopefully Amherst Street will be a good fit for this offshoot of the business.
