The former Club Utica building is at long last being outfitted with new windows and storefronts. The project is being driven by PUSH Buffalo’s Buffalo Neighborhood Stabilization Company, which is in the midst of renovating and/or building 46 new units of affordable housing in its Green Development Zone centered along Massachusetts Avenue.
Buffalo Neighborhood Stabilization Company purchased the 6,600 sq.ft. building in April 2012 for $33,000. The two-story building will contain a community room, laundry room and several offices behind two commercial spaces fronting W. Utica. A pair of one-bedroom apartments and a two-bedroom unit will be constructed on the second floor.
The Club Utica building is located at 527 W. Utica Street at Brayton. I spoke with Aaron Bartley of PUSH recently, who told me that no decisions had been made regarding the occupants of the storefronts, though he did say that they have some prospectives.
The two new storefronts join a wealth of other projects/businesses in the area, including Paradise Wines, Five Points Bakery, Urban Roots, three floors of retail/business at 429 Rhode Island (on line), Press Café (coming soon), and myriad other advancements such as a new Bikram yoga studio – TBA.
