A full service design studio has signed up to occupy a spot at the Market Arcade, joining a slew of other retailers that have recently opened in the building. Rust Belt Love, owned and operated by Alyson MacVittie, will bring to the arcade a professional design business that specializes in custom print design, wedding coordinating, and event planning. Alyson has been a big part of the Buffalo fine paper print design and bridal world for years, and has created inspirational custom work for numerous brides – a stint that ultimately led to the designer taking on non-wedding events.
“We designed our first wedding invitation as Rust Belt Love in 2010,” said Alyson in a 2014 Buffalo Rising article. “Since then we have expanded to full event design and coordination. With a background in traditional illustration, everything we do is custom and hand drawn; we don’t use stock or templates. We take that “this might be totally crazy” idea that couples have and turn it into something beautiful and unique to that couple. Everything from Harry Potter-Inspired invitations, to invitations with the look of baseball laces.
“In 2013 we added reception design and same-day coordination to our repertoire. We develop close relationships with our couples and they started asking us to help carry out their style and vision through their whole event. We mostly work with indie couples that are looking for something different from the big books of stock designs and typical wedding mag decor available out there. My husband and I are both originally from WNY, but moved away after high school. We moved back to Buffalo from NYC in 2007.”
Now Rust Belt Love will be bringing its custom print design expertise and event coordinating talents to the Market Arcade. And that’s good news, because as Buffalo continues to blossom, there will be a lot more weddings and events to coordinate!
