For the third year in a row, the waterfront will come alive with an event that prides itself as “Canalside’s biggest music and food event of the summer.” Not only will visitors get to check out music acts that include Black Widow, Busted Stuff, Strictly Hip, The Informers, Hair Nation, The Heritage, Randle & the Late Night Scandal, and Leon and the Fork Lifts, there will also be food from ten local restaurants. And it’s all in the name of a good cause. In this case, the name happens to be John P. McGowan, who lost his battle with cancer in 2011. Now John’s family are carrying on his name, while raising money to combat the disease that takes the lives of so many each year.
“I wanted to pay tribute to my father and support the cause,” explains son Corey McGowan. “My father’s wish was to one day be able to personally support the cause and help others in need. Unfortunately my father never lived to see that day so this is a wish my family and I are proud to fulfill for him.”
Over the course of the day, 15 bands will play Canalside. The event is free, and VIP tickets can be purchased for $40, which gets you complimentary catering and drinks, with cocktail service.
