The group Lackawanna Citizens for a Clean Waterfront is organizing a rally/protest to be held today, Monday, August 10, 2015 at 6:30pm at the Senior Citizens Center on 230 Martin Road, Lackawanna. The event serves as a Call to Action for the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to clean and remove remnant hazardous contaminants from the waterfront.
“This event is to address concerns regarding the DEC decision to bury toxic waste on the Lackawanna waterfront instead of removing all toxic waste from this site,” says activist John Nowak. “Let’s show Western New York and the current land owners that we want all hazardous materials removed from the former Bethlehem Steel land, not just covered up.”
A Facebook group has been started “Lackawanna Citizens for a Clean Waterfront” open to citizens and non-citizens.
