By this time, you’ve probably noticed signs all over Buffalo, notifying residents that the Buffalo Marathon will be underway starting at 7am on Sunday. This year, there is a new course, a new starting line, additional race activities and a number of other changes that are being implemented to make the race a more well-rounded and more spirited event.
It is interesting to note that 2015 marks the first time in race history that the marathon has sold out. That means that 7500 runners will be taking to the streets of Buffalo this year. If you want to see where the runners are heading, you can check out the new course map.
“We’re thrilled that so many runners from all over world have embraced our marathon,” said Race Director Greg Weber. “Our event is becoming a destination marathon.”
Following are some of the events that runners and visitors can expect over the weekend:
- For the first time, the Buffalo Marathon is partnering with Team RWB for a Veterans Challenge
- John Beishline Memorial 5K Challenge – Saturday, May 23 at 8:30am on Pearl Street near Huron Street
- Street party hosted by Osteria 166, and a pre-race pasta party (live music and pig roast)
- A fun run for children – Saturday, May 23 for kids ages 2 to 12 at 10:30 a.m.
- Donnelly Challenge – awarded to runners who participate in the 5K and the marathon
- A pre-race pasta party for runners and their families will be held Saturday – Convention Center ballroom
- Open-air autobus tours for runners and their families on Saturday, May 23
- Five running experts will be speakers at the Buffalo Marathon Expo
- Several food trucks will be selling food at the Buffalo Marathon – “Food Court” on Court Street between Franklin and Pearl Streets. Menus will be altered to serve breakfast items
