NRG Energy, Inc. and Young Audiences have partnered together to bring to WNY the NRG Creatively Green Awards Program. The program will award three schools an engaging and dynamic family festival that celebrates imagination and creativity while promoting a better understanding of individual and community responsibility to protect our planet.
Schools and districts selected in the NRG Creatively Green Awards will host an engaging and dynamic community festival for parents, children, and teachers. The 2-3 hour festival will provide communities an opportunity to engage in hands-on art making that raises awareness of environmental sustainability.
Festival activities will include a dynamic performance by a Young Audiences’ artist focusing on the importance of protecting the environment; hands-on art making workshops led by Young Audiences’ professional teaching artists that promote environmental sustainability; and community art-making project to be played, displayed, or shared during the event.
“Young Audiences is proud to be able to offer three free family green arts festivals to schools across the region,” said Nancy Sterman, Director of Education at Young Audiences. “Our teaching artists will work with each community to build awareness, excitement, and a movement towards positive change around our environment. Today, it is more important than ever to build a new generation of caregivers to our Planet Earth. Learning through the arts and building strong community partnerships will help us to achieve our goals as an organization and as global citizens of the Earth.”
The NRG Creatively Green Awards were created to put on events that incorporate family involvement and fun, and creative education on the science of sustainability. In addition to funding the program, NRG employees will also volunteer their time helping at the events.
