Over the years Elmwood Avenue has evolved into a set of sections that each take on respective identities. Whether it’s due to parkland, the types of businesses, the infrastructure of the street, etc., there are blocks that, when strung together, are identifiable as distinctive destinations. When considering the different destinations of the street, it’s easy to see that respective businesses tend to rally together, in tandem with the Elmwood Village Association, in order to attract people. Sometimes that is done through events, and/or block sales.
In the past we have seen a heavy concentration of events take place in and around Bidwell Parkway and the 700 block of Elmwood. Now, as part of a celebration that marks the 20-year anniversary of the Elmwood Village Association, a four-hour party will be held from W. Utica to Hodge Avenue. This stretch of the street has recently seen a number of new businesses open, including Erbert & Gerbert’s, Newbury Street, Habibi Sheesha Lounge, Saigon Café (coming soon), and LA Taqueria (coming soon in the former NoNoo Ramen).
“This Fall marks the 20th year since the Elmwood Village Association received its not-for-profit status,” said Carly Battin, executive director of the Elmwood Village Association. “We want to celebrate the vision and drive of this community and all that the Elmwood Village Association has accomplished and will accomplish.”
On Saturday, September 27th, the community is invited to come celebrate the Elmwood Village milestone from 6:00-10:00 pm. This is being considered an inaugural event, and will feature local music acts, street games and activities and local food vendors. Elmwood Avenue will be closed to traffic from W. Utica to Hodge during the event. It’s a street-style bash intended to get everyone moving and shaking, shopping, and enjoying a street that continues to evolve into a place where urban life is at its finest.
