The taco and burrito wars are heating up in Buffalo. Now that there are a couple of new Mexican joints on Allen Street, and another on South Park (with more on the way), Salsarita’s is starting to feel the heat. No, not the competition necessarily, the company is introducing what it considered to be a burrito that has the potential to test the limits of the Scoville scale.
Salsarita’s has teamed up with a US hot pepper grower by the name of PuckerButt Pepper Company. PuckerButt grows a hot pepper that is said to be 300 times hotter than the average jalapeño pepper. The explosive pepper, called Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper®, holds the Guinness World Record® Holder for Hottest Chile Pepper.
“When we heard the world’s hottest chile pepper was grown right here in the U.S. by PuckerButt Pepper Company, we knew we needed to team up with them for a hot new menu item,” said Yanira Castro, Director of Marketing for Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina. “We expect the World’s Hottest Burrito will be an instant favorite for those who can handle the heat.”
The BurHEATo™ is now available at Salsarita’s Buffalo (all locations) through September 21. Ingredients are as follows: freshly grilled chicken, black beans, rice, Pueblo Corn Salsa, tomatoes, cilantro and just one teaspoon of Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® pepper mash.
We are all aware of how much heat Buffalonians can handle, as seen with the birth of the “suicidal wing”. We shall see how they can hold up to the Carolina Reaper®.
