Martin Cooks restaurant, located in the Horsefeathers Building on Connecticut Street, is going through another growth spurt. This time the open-kitchen lunch and dinner establishment will be incorporating two additional features to its repertoire.
First, the seated dining area (for lunch) will be transitioned into a “sister bar”, serving small plates of charcuterie, cheeses, and olive oils, designed to reflect Martin’s signature cooking style. Customers will soon be able to order a glass of wine or bottled beer and sample some small bite culinary delights without having to fill up with a lunch item (the current daily routine) or a five course tasting (the nightly program). “A lot of customers have been asking for this,” chef/owner Martin Danilowicz told me. “We want to diversify what we’re doing here, so that we can take our recent successes and grow the business to accommodate customers’ eating and drinking preferences. The market atmosphere that has been established here, lends itself to creating a second bar that allows people to sample different delicacies, along with cocktail pairings in a similar social setting that customers are already familiar with.”
If you’re liking the concept of a small plate and tasting bar, then you’re going to love what Martin has up his sleeve next. Press Juice (located in the Horsefeathers Building) has decided to set out on its own, for a new location on Grant Street (more on that coming soon). When Martin discovered that there was going to be a vacant space across the hallway, he jumped on the opportunity to create something that he had always dreamed of having in Buffalo. “We’re going to be expanding into that location in order to open a European-style market,” Martin explained. “I’ve done a lot of traveling and have formulated a vision for providing customers with the best luxury food items that you just can’t find in the city at this point. We’re also going to be preparing foods that people will be able to pick up and take home, whether that’s for dinner or for a cocktail party. All the foods will be prepared in our signature style, and we’ll even be doing some of our own canning and bottling.”
The timeline for these two Martin Cooks enhancements will be fairly soon, considering the depth of these recent developments. The market will open in conjunction with the Horsefeathers Winter Market and the small plates/small bites pairing bar will open before that.
